Purpose of the Role

Every transaction has tax implications, whether it is an acquisition, disposal, refinancing, restructuring or initial public offering. Our Transaction Tax Advisory team, one of three disciplines within International Tax and Transaction Services (ITTS), serves corporate and private capital markets clients in tax diligence, general transaction advisory, and overall transaction project management. Our integrated global approach means we deliver coordinated advice, helping clients make informed decisions and navigate the tax implications of their transactions aligning with the long-term strategy.

 

The Opportunity

As an ITTS Senior Manager specialising in Transaction Tax Advisory, you will be at the heart of client centricity delivery. The Senior Manager, based in Lusaka but working nationally is a pivotal leadership role responsible for delivering exceptional tax advisory services to a diverse portfolio of clients. This position manages complex tax engagements, provides strategic guidance, and ensures compliance with both Zambian and international tax regulations. It is all about translating information from a variety of sources into quantitative and qualitative analyses to inform and advise our clients. The role encompasses client relationship management, technical expertise, team leadership, and proactive identification of tax planning opportunities.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Client Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor, offering insights on tax strategy, planning, and compliance in line with evolving legislative requirements.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide advanced technical tax advice on corporate tax, international tax, transfer pricing, indirect tax, mergers & acquisitions, and transaction tax advisory.
  • Project Management: Lead and oversee multiple tax advisory projects, ensuring timely delivery, high quality, and compliance with firm standards.
  • Transaction Support: Conduct tax due diligence reviews, advise on structuring of business transactions, and analyze the tax implications of acquisitions, disposals, restructurings, and IPOs.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of changes in tax legislation and ensure clients and the firm remain compliant with all relevant requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, tax authorities (e.g., Zambia Revenue Authority), and internal teams across service lines and geographies.
  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with tax advisory projects, ensuring adherence to risk management policies and procedures.
  • Business Development: Identify new business opportunities, contribute to proposals, and participate in client pitches to grow the tax advisory practice.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor, coach, and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of learning, collaboration, and performance excellence.
  • Training & Supervision: Train and mentor junior tax staff on technical matters and best practices; manage the work performance of consultants; supervise office administration functions.
  • Financial Management: Manage financial portfolios, including WIP management, billings, and cash collection.

To qualify for the role you must have 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, Taxation, or a related field; advanced degree or professional qualification (e.g., CA, ACCA, CPA, CTA, ZICA) strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in tax advisory, ideally within a Big Four or large professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Zambian and international tax laws, including Income Tax Act, Property Transfer Tax Act, VAT Act, Transfer Pricing regulations, and double taxation treaties.
  • Proven track record in managing complex projects and leading high-performing teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to identify and address client needs proactively.
  • Experience managing budgets, projects, and people.
  • All academic Qualifications MUST be ZAQA certified.
