Opportunity
The role of Associate Director - Tax Professional is crucial in navigating the complexities of international tax and transfer pricing. This position is collaborative and analytical, requiring the individual to support clients from various industries in developing efficient and sustainable tax strategies while maintaining a strong brand reputation. The Associate Director will lead the Tax Team in EY Zambia, driving strategic initiatives, ensuring compliance, and delivering exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management:

  • Build credibility by understanding clients' businesses and their competitive landscape.
  • Anticipate client needs and provide timely solutions.
  • Manage diverse client stakeholders and influence senior decision-makers.
  • Offer insights and EY perspectives to explore solutions.
  • Develop a broad network of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead complex client projects, integrating multiple specialists.
  • Proactively resolve potential barriers to client relationships.

People Leadership:

  • Communicate complex messages effectively while maintaining strong relationships.
  • Foster an inclusive team environment that encourages diverse ideas.
  • Identify development gaps and support team members' growth.
  • Provide timely feedback to facilitate continuous development.
  • Align team efforts with global strategies and initiatives.

Technical Expertise:

  • Demonstrate mastery in a specific tax competency area.
  • Keep the team updated on emerging technologies and legislative changes.
  • Implement AI use cases relevant to tax competencies.
  • Translate large data sets into actionable business insights.
  • Lead reviews of tax processes with a focus on automation and AI.
  • Act as a change champion, bridging traditional practices with digital fluency.

Sector Knowledge:

  • Understand clients' business and Proactively provide sector insights and contribute to industry communities.
  • Develop tailored materials for specific industries.

Quality Risk Management (QRM):

  • Ensure team adherence to risk, independence, objectivity, and compliance standards.
  • Key Internal Relationships
  • Collaborate with partners and tax teams, cross-service line partners, and subject matter experts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, Taxation, or a related field; advanced degrees or professional qualifications (e.g., ZICA, CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, CTA) preferred.
  • 10 to 12 years of progressive tax experience, ideally in a Big Four or large professional services environment.
  • Expertise in Zambian and international tax laws, including relevant acts and regulations.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead high-performing teams.
  • Strong business acumen to proactively address client needs.
  • All academic qualifications must be ZAQA certified.
