Supporting our clients in these matters is about providing robust independent views that bring together deep forensic accounting and/or commercial knowledge, sector insight and experience of dispute resolution forums. Our clients look to us to make it happen, and as a Disputes Senior Manager, you’ll be right at the heart of that goal, working with multiple stakeholders with some of the most innovative technology tools available. 

 

The opportunity

Our Forensic & Integrity Services team is growing, and as a Disputes Senior Manager you’ll play a key role in that growth specialising in one of our growth channels: Government and Infrastructure.  You can expect to take on a wide range of work which involves building relationships, identifying, and developing opportunities for EY’s services, responding to formal tenders and delivering on engagements from proactive contract assurance and pre dispute resolution to reactive formal dispute resolution. You will also get the opportunity to work with and learn from our diverse team of enthusiastic individuals, from graduates to senior experts with experience in a breadth of forensic disciplines. 

 

Your key responsibilities

It’s no exaggeration to say you’ll never be doing the same task for too long. You’re likely to balance your time between directly liaising with our clients to understand their needs, analysing complex commercial issues and where appropriate developing bid responses and propositions. It’s all about using your skills to creatively assess and resolve our clients’ needs helping them deliver the best commercial outcomes from often complex and/or difficult positions. That means thinking differently, leading effective teams and speaking up with innovative ideas that challenge the status quo.

 

Skills and attributes for success

  • This position is best suited to a Lawyer, Commercial Specialist, or qualified Forensic Accountant who has worked on both accounting and financial disputes. You will have knowledge, skillset, and experience in several of the following areas:
  • Be highly numerate and analytical, and skilled with words and formal drafting, be that reports, analyses, submissions, expert reports, other formal documents
  • Familiar with valuation and finance concepts (e.g. cost of capital, risk adjusted discount rates) and the preparation or review of financial models
  • Confident with Microsoft PowerPoint, and able to present information clearly in a meetings/Teams environment
  • Complex commercial transactions specifically within Government and Infrastructure, including any issue resolution through negotiation and/or dispute
  • Extensive knowledge in government bid processes with writing expertise to support the production of bids and proposals to aid business growth
  • Understanding of the relationships between government and its commercial suppliers, and how these are prioritised and managed 
  • Broader dispute consulting including but not limited to pre-action advice, negotiation support, forensic contract reviews and cost recovery reviews
  • Leading smaller projects / larger workstreams and are beginning to take a leading role in Business Development by attending marketing events, leading marketing initiatives, and developing your own network
  • Managing relationships with EY account teams, clients, in-house counsel, external legal teams, witnesses, other experts, and regulatory enforcers
  • Proactive lead in supporting practice and risk management and the development of staff.
     

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Significant experience in commercial contract management within government, a dispute consulting practice or professional services firm
  • Professional accountancy qualification or similar professional qualification e.g. Law
  • First class report writing skills and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to be a strong team player
     

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Strong academic record including a degree (in any subject)
