The opportunity - Senior Associate in the Commercial, IP & Technology Practice

 
We are currently seeking a senior (7+ PQE) Commercial Lawyer to join the Commercial, IP & Technology Department of our Financial Services Law team within EY Law. The role is client facing and will report to a Partner in the FS Law team.  The team is based in London but there are opportunities to work remotely.

 

You will be self-motivated, able to work autonomously and/or within multi-disciplinary teams focusing on transactions and advice in the UK and internationally across borders when required. You should have a demonstrable track record of commercial, technology and/or transactional legal experience [across multiple industries], including ideally in the financial services sector, leading advice, negotiations and bespoke drafting on issues arising in commercial, IP and technology transactions. 

 

Ideally, you’ll also have experience of some or all of the following:

  • A wide range of commercial and/or technology contracts e.g. IT/BPO sourcing contracts, supply, distribution, services contracts, franchise, agency,  fintech contracts, digital/tech law contracts, and cloud contracts;
  • Transaction support in M&A and/or corporate reorganisation (i.e., legal project management, transaction due diligence, transitional services agreements etc.);
  • Large scale contract review/novation projects and project management skills;
  • FS sector experience, specifically banking, wealth & asset management and/or insurance sectors;
  • Third party and supply chain risk management (including a working knowledge of FS regulations affecting sourcing and supply chain contracts) would be beneficial .


The FS Commercial, IP and Technology Practice works closely with colleagues in the  FS Data Privacy and FS Regulatory Practices, and are part of the wider EY Law practice.  We integrate fully within EY, both in the UK and globally, and leverage and work with the existing growth platforms that EY already has (including Consulting, Technology and Tax), with their extensive list of clients, resources and global presence.
 
We work across all financial services sectors, including banking, capital markets, wealth and asset management, and insurance, and with our counterparts across the global EY Law network to provide multi-jurisdictional advice to clients.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering and taking responsibility for exceptional client service through team delivery, consistently producing high quality work, demonstrating technical competence and insight
  • Building and maintaining relationships with clients and within EY, winning work proactively and contributing to winning new clients
  • Management of the successful delivery of technically complex and demanding projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical / business driven approach taken
  • Managing client accounts, including client care requirements and financial management, preparing proposals, participating in pitches
  • Build networks and relationships internally and externally to drive the team’s and Law’s strategy
  • Participating in team and firm events, giving internal and external presentations, and producing expert articles for publication, contribute to people initiatives, including retaining and training law professionals
  • Development of junior team members through effective supervision, coaching and mentoring

To qualify for the role, you will ideally have

  • At least 7+ years PQE;
  • Experience working in a leading UK City or Regional law firm or equivalent professional services firm;
  • Experience managing teams (virtual or cross-border) of 2-6+ people; and willingness to learn new concepts with minimal guidance
