Private Equity Enablement CoE – Director (Level 5)

Reports to: PE Enablement CoE Leader / C&I Strategy & Operations Director

 

EY works with the world’s largest Private Equity funds supporting them to acquire, transform and sell assets. A number of our largest UK headquartered funds are required to adhere to SEC Independence restrictions. This in turn requires EY to proactively monitor and manage all work that we engage on with those funds (including as asset level) to ensure that we comply with all SEC, EU PIE & UK PIE/OEPI and EY independence requirements.

 

This position has significant scope to improve and optimize processes.

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

 

  • Lead complex projects and assignments, or key aspects of assignments, for example, resolving issues relating to highly complex business or other relationships. Liaise with GCSP and central independence function on complex regulatory matters and co-ordinate a resolution.
  • Demonstrate a high level of technical knowledge and understanding of emerging knowledge, trends and lessons learned by applying key requirements of the SEC, UK and EU independence rules and firm policies as applicable to PE accounts and other Risk Management topics
  • Actively engage in required consultations with GCSPs on PE account Independence matters and ensure relevant stakeholders are involved to discuss and resolve complex issues
  • Identify related emerging risks and propose remedial solutions for new firm service offerings.
  • Represent the UK and wider European Private Equity community within the Centre of Excellence to share best practice and develop process efficiencies across firm networks.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Review and provide input into complex matters,
  • Manage the achievement of key metrics to improve efficiency and manage risk.
  • Make recommendations / implement actions to enhance processes of the COE and interactions with the business.
  • Developing compliance as a service and collaborate with teams globally to improve compliance processes
  • Collaborate closely with team members, providing appropriate guidance and training where required to do so,
  • Coach and support team members in discussions with the business, as appropriate
  • Deputise for the PE Enablement CoE Leader on occasion, as required
  • Working closely with wider EY teams – across Business Consulting, Tax & Law, Strategy & Transactions and Assurance to align scopes within independence boundaries to support opportunities across the business and bring the best of the firm to our clients

 

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

 

  • Strong knowledge of firm independence policies and regulators’ rules
  • Familiarity with other RM initiatives outside of specific Independence area
  • Requires understanding of relevant firm business
  • Demonstrates pro-activity and thought leadership around specific disciplines
  • Ability to think strategically and handle complex concepts.
  • Problem solving across multiple service line, industry sector and geographic areas.
  • Ability to drive and adapt to change.
  • Ability to deliver tough messages to executive leaders within the firm
  • Strong communication skills as well as listening and interpretation skills.
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.

Supervision Responsibilities:

 

This role will be supported by 3x Manager, and GDS offshore support. No line management responsibility is expected, as this will be covered by the Private Equity Enablement CoE – Leader. You will be expected to formally career counsel at least one member of the team.

 

Experience:

 

  • Have a minimum of 7 years working experience
  • Ideally Qualified/Post graduate studies
  • Previous experience working in a risk / compliance function or experience working in assurance or one of our other service lines
  • Commercial awareness of the issues facing the business and Private Equity sector and the ability to deal with problems in a practical but thorough manner
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to balance a varied workload
  • Have a drive to solve complex problems with senior stakeholders
  • Willing to be hands-on and keep calm under pressure working directly with teams to meet deadlines
  • Have business development experience
  • Be a coach to junior team-members helping them with on-the-job training, informal discussions, and formal training modules
  • Be a team player with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels in EY and with clients.
