Job description
We are looking for a Manager to join our Climate Risk team within the Risk & Actuarial practice. As a Manager you will be focused on primarily helping the insurance industry and to some extent the banking and capital markets respond to the fast-developing and growing climate risk and sustainable finance issues. Our Risk & Actuarial team brings together a broad range of skillsets including actuaries, risk practitioners, regulatory specialists and modellers, and works closely with other EY teams such as our Climate Change and Sustainability Services teams that supports non-financial services sectors, as well as our FS Transformation, Strategy and Technology consulting and Assurance teams, to deliver innovative, end-to-end solutions.
We deliver sustainable benefits to our clients through tailored services across financial and non-financial risks, helping address market wide challenges such as embedding climate change and ESG in firms’ planning and stress testing, climate scenario evaluation and broader risk management framework, help business leaders develop new products, clear strategies, targets, supporting disclosures such as TCFD and Transition Plans, supporting the development of net zero metrics, carbon measurement and strategy in investments and underwriting, transition risk and physical risk evaluation and modelling.
We welcome applicants with a variety of backgrounds and experience in the fields of actuarial science, risk management, climate change and sustainable finance, and are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate knowledge of climate risk, climate risk management, climate risk modelling, catastrophe risk exposure management, Net zero metrics and funded emissions, ESG regulation as it impacts the insurance sector in particular and also broader financial services or particular industry sectors.
There is also the opportunity to be involved in capital management and reserving engagements for market leading insurers.

Your key responsibilities

As a Manager in the team, you can expect to be involved in the following activities:
- Participate in, and direct engagements, within the climate risk and sustainable finance sector, providing subject matter expertise and ensuring the quality of the work delivered to clients including managing the technical delivery of projects to completion and providing technical content.
- Assisting in the dialogue on climate and sustainable finance with client project sponsors and fully manage expectations of delivery, content, timescales and cost
- Assist partners and directors with generating new business opportunities and industry networks and relationships, including assisting with proposals, written and oral presentations.
- Help manage financial aspects of client engagements, adhere to EY’s risk management policies and procedures, and communicate progress and escalate any significant issues to partners and clients
- Creating innovative commercial insights for clients, adapt methods and practices to fit operational team and cultural needs, and contribute to thought leadership.
- Developing people through effectively supervising, coaching, and mentoring staff.
- Play an engaged part in people’s development through recruiting, supervising, coaching, mentoring, and training Actuaries and/or Risk professionals

- Experience with managing expectation of both internal and external stakeholders
To qualify for the role you must have.
- Qualified as an actuary or have a strong quantitative risk background
- Experience in the development and implementation of well thought-out climate risk and/or risk management solutions, ideally gained within insurers or banks, in an advisory role, or in the regulation of such institutions
- We are looking for quantitative profiles, and a balance of skills and experience from across actuarial, risk management and/or modelling, catastrophe risk exposure management, credit analytics and climate change.
- Experience of at least one of the following: sustainable finance in insurance, climate stress testing, cat modelling, exposure management, pricing in relation to climate, credit risk modelling, risk frameworks for insurers
- Prior experience within a consultancy role would be advantageous, or playing a prominent role in a change programme or managing teams within an institution
- Strong knowledge of regulatory reforms impacting climate change and ESG and/or financial institutions
- Non-financial industry knowledge of climate risk regulation is an advantage
- Knowledge of financial and/or non-financial risk management and modelling in R or Python is an advantage
- Experience in risk management processes and frameworks, disclosures, and supporting data and infrastructure
