We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced manager to join our rapidly expanding mobility payroll team. You will be instrumental in driving our strategic objectives, focusing on expanding the depth and breadth of our offerings with clients in terms of scope, service delivery, and strategic significance.
As one of the team leads, you will oversee day-to-day operations while managing a diverse portfolio of clients. The Team:
The Mobility Compensation & Payroll team operates within our Financial Services People Advisory Services Tax team, providing managed services tailored for multinational companies with a globally mobile workforce, including assignees, business travellers, and agile workers. Our team collaborates closely with EY’s mobility tax professionals to deliver a comprehensive end-to-end service for our clients.
Our core function is to ensure effective compensation and payroll management, enabling clients to achieve full policy and tax compliance. We focus on two primary services that are essential for navigating the complexities of global mobility, ensuring that our clients receive the highest level of support and expertise in managing their workforce:
UK Expat/Mobility Payroll
- UK payroll outsourced services including HMRC’s EP Appendix 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
- Managing end-to-end mobility payroll programmes
- Implementing new technology solutions & processes, and assisting during transition
- Providing solutions for increased global compliance
- Providing technical advice and assistance regarding new regulations
- Liaising with 3rd parties to ensure a smooth and efficient transfer of data
- Advising clients on their mobility payroll setup and providing technical advice on the operation of these schemes
- Ad hoc expat payroll advisory
Global Compensation Services
- Full global compensation collection, validation and analysis
- Global payroll coordination including tax and social security.
- Rigorous pre- and post-payroll variance checks to maintain accuracy.
- Comprehensive policy assessments to align with best practices.
- Insightful total cost reporting and cost savings advisory to drive efficiency.
- Enhancing the international experience for both the mobile workforce and companies
About you:
You will be an experienced Consulting Payroll Manager who brings a wealth of experience in establishing and operating UK modified payroll schemes, including Appendix 5, 6, 7, and 8. Your expertise in team management will be complemented by your ability to review work effectively while providing invaluable support through training and coaching to your team.
Ideally, you will have a strong interest in collaborating with global clients to manage their assignment-related payroll, while also playing a pivotal role in expanding our portfolio of both UK-based and international clients.
Experience in tax technical matters, including but not limited to:
- Tax equalised arrangements.
- Application of tax treaties
- S690
- Foreign tax credits
- A1s and CoCs
- Organised with good attention to detail.
- Focused on achieving accuracy and compliance.
- Focused on efficiency, keen to identified and implement improvements.
- Be able to manage and delegate to a team both on and offshore.
- Excellent communicator in a range of situations

Your Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the mobility payroll compliance portfolio, ensuring adherence to regulations and standards.
- Ensure timely delivery of monthly deliverables to and from clients, maintaining clear communication throughout the process.
- Validate year-end reporting information and perform necessary reconciliations to ensure accuracy.
- Oversee the successful delivery of client projects, ensuring all objectives are met.
- Assist with broader mobility payroll projects as required, showcasing versatility and adaptability.
- Proactively manage existing client accounts and contribute to winning new clients, assisting in business development efforts.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring high levels of client service and satisfaction.
- Lead client calls and attend client meetings in person where required.
- Ensure delivery aligns with KPIs and SLAs, maintaining accountability for performance.
- Identify areas of risk or scope opportunities to mitigate challenges and drive success.
- Mentor and manage junior staff members, supporting their learning and development to foster a strong team dynamic.
- Contribute to process improvements and enhance project efficiency through awareness and proactive suggestions.
- Ensure compliance with EY Quality Risk Management procedures to uphold our standards of excellence.
- Utilise EY software and technology to facilitate the preparation of various reports and documents efficiently.
