Data Protection Manager (9 month FTC)


Within the professional services environment, the application of risk management procedures is fundamental to the successful delivery of our client services and promotion of our brand.  Risk management encompasses the technical support and processes which underpin the delivery of service quality, contain the threat of litigation, limit damage to our reputation and seek to achieve full fee recovery.


At Ernst & Young ("EY"), the Risk Management (RM) group is responsible for the promotion and support of risk management within the business. RM's aim is to uphold our business standards, maintain and enhance the value of the firm, and ensure that the UK&I firm complies with the rules and regulations imposed either by external regulators or by Ernst & Young Global in relation to the conduct of our business.
The opportunity 
There is a 9 month FTC vacancy at manager level for a data protection professional to support the UK Data Protection Officer (DPO) and the business in complying with all relevant DP legislation. You will be part of a collaborative and close-knit team who proactively identify solutions and lead on key projects within Risk Management.
Your key responsibilities 

You will enjoy a challenging and varied workload, supporting the business via the prompt delivery of pragmatic, adaptable and commercial legal and compliance advice. You will ensure the firm’s compliance with applicable privacy legislation, such as the UK/EU GDPR; the Data Protection Act 2018; and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.  


You will be specifically responsible for: 

  • Owning an area of DP where you will become a trusted advisor
  • Responding to queries from the business on all areas of data protection and providing appropriate advice and interpretation of data privacy legislation;
  • Advising on complex and high-risk data protection issues arising out of frontline compliance matters in a timely manner, such as:
    • data subject requests
    • potential data incidents
    • privacy impact assessments
    • compliance ‘health checks’
    • legitimate interests’ assessments
  • Deployment of compliance monitoring processes including reviews and audits;
  • Delivering training and awareness across the UK firm;
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring internal policies and procedures;
  • Assisting with the firm’s ad hoc projects; and
  • Implementation of the EY Global Privacy Framework within the UK firm.

  • Commercial acumen.


To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Degree-level education or equivalent and possess or working towards a professional qualification such as CIPP/E or equivalent Data Privacy qualification; and
  • Demonstrate experience in Data Protection with strong knowledge in quality, risk management and compliance processes.
