Assurance – Disputes, Senior Manager, London
Our clients are looking to us to help them resolve complex commercial situations often involving disputes and, ultimately, to help safeguard the value of their businesses. Supporting our clients in these matters is about providing robust independent views that bring together deep forensic accounting and/or commercial knowledge, sector insight and experience of dispute resolution forums. Our clients look to us to make it happen, and as a Disputes Senior Manager, you’ll be right at the heart of that goal, working with multiple stakeholders with some of the most innovative technology tools available.
The opportunity
Our Forensic & Integrity Services team is growing, and as a Disputes Senior Manager you’ll play a key role in that growth. You can expect to take on a wide range of work which involves building relationships, identifying and developing opportunities for EY’s services, developing proposals and responding to formal tenders, delivering on engagements from proactive contract assurance and pre dispute resolution to reactive formal dispute resolution. You will also get the opportunity to work with and learn from our diverse team of enthusiastic individuals, from graduates to senior experts with experience in a breadth of forensic disciplines.
Your key responsibilities
It’s no exaggeration to say you’ll never be doing the same task for too long. You’re likely to balance your time between directly liaising with our clients to understand their needs, analysing complex commercial issues and where appropriate developing bid responses and proposals. It’s all about using your skills to creatively assess and resolve our clients’ needs helping them deliver the best commercial outcomes from often complex and/or difficult positions. That means thinking differently, leading effective teams and speaking up with innovative ideas that challenge the status quo.
Skills and attributes for success
- You will have knowledge, skillset and experience in several of the following areas:
- Highly numerate and analytical, and skilled with words and formal drafting, be that reports, analyses, submissions, expert reports, other formal documents
- Principles of causation of damages (e.g. loss of profits, compensable costs, breach of warranties, misrepresentation, interest calculations)
- Valuation and finance concepts (e.g. cost of capital, risk adjusted discount rates) and the preparation or review of financial models
- Analysing strengths/weaknesses of opposing cases, formulating alternative damage scenarios and advising on strategic implications
- Preparation of expert witness reports including review, analysis and verification of evidence
- Broader dispute resolution experience including but not limited to pre-action advice, negotiation support, forensic contract reviews, completion accounts, expert determination and transaction related disputes
- Leading multidisciplinary teams and providing coaching to and developing team members
- Developing and managing relationships with EY account teams, clients, in-house counsel, external legal teams, witnesses, other experts and regulatory enforcers
- Proactive lead in supporting practice and risk management
To qualify for the role you must have
- Strong academic record including a degree (in any subject)
- Professional accountancy qualification or similar professional qualification
- Strong English language report writing skills and excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong MS Office Suite skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to be a strong team player
