LEVEL 3 – FSO ASSURANCE Risk Manager (London or Newcastle)
Role Overview
Our professionals offer a wide range of services across Audit, Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS), Extended Assurance (EA), Tech Risk (TR), CCASS (Climate Change Adaptation and Sustainability Strategy) and Fraud Investigation & Dispute Services (Forensics). The UK practice is part of EMEIA FSO which operates across various countries and encompasses staff from a range of services lines.
The opportunity
The Audit Quality team (AQT) is responsible for ensuring the firm’s compliance with the rules and regulations imposed either by external professional regulatory bodies or by EY Global in relation to the conduct of the firm’s assurance business in the financial services industry.
The team sits within the wider AQT network across UK and EMEIA FSO and provides support to engagement teams on matters of policy, risk management, quality and compliance as well as related processes. As a Risk Manager you will be responsible for organising and managing various risk management projects and quality initiatives for the practice and contributing to the strategic agenda of the AQT team. Part of this role will include direct liaison with Partners and senior FS Assurance stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
Management of team members
Responsible for managing and coaching junior members of the team daily, including oversight of their work in several areas, including:
- Production and analysis of various reports from EY’s internal data systems
- Production and analysis of EY’s primary rotation system
- Management and effective operation of various ISQM1 controls
- Maintenance of firm’s systems e.g. updates to our internal data systems
- Ad hoc reporting.
Partner and firm rotation
- Reviewing compliance with EY’s rotation policies including answering policy queries and requests from the practice
- Review of rotation papers prior to approval by the second line of defence
- Oversight of the annual portfolio validation project
- Coordinating and preparing the paper for the bi-annual Rotation Board
- Ensuring that EY’s internal data systems are up to date and reflective of our current client base and Partner/director portfolios
- Responsible for resourcing the team’s Engagement Quality Reviewer (EQR) requirements, including monitoring their compliance with internal policies
- Responding to ad hoc queries and response requests.
Responding to regulatory requests
- Managing and compiling the FS response to numerous annual regulatory requests
- Dealing with any ad hoc information requests from the regulator or internal EY team
- Management of the annual ICAEW return with oversight from the Director of Risk Management
- Management of the annual Transparency Report.
Global Independence System (GIS)
- Monitoring of delinquent GIS restrictions and validations
- Oversight of the GIS restrictions process to check new clients are correct on GIS and following up with audit teams.
Assurance Advisory sub service lines
- Liaising with Partner leads in each sub service line to help establish and monitor quality measures to address relevant risks in each area
- Collating and sharing outputs on quality measures to leadership.
Other
- Delivering risk management training to all levels of staff and Partners
- Ensuring data integrity of internal systems such as the GRT and GIS
- Liaising with UK&I AQT contributing to their goals and objectives and ensuring consistency across business units.
Skills and experience
- Experience of managing teams including the ability to encourage and motivate people
- Individuals should have the ability to critically challenge existing business practices to bring efficiencies using innovation and automation tools
- Excellent communication and relationship building skills including the confidence to articulate to individuals of all grades and levels, including Partners
- Strong organisational and project management skills with experience managing competing priorities
- Comfortable working collaboratively, virtually and independently including managing staff members based regionally
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience in responding to different stakeholders and upwards management
- Ability to lead by example, demonstrating a high standard of quality and effective risk management behaviors.
Preferred but not essential
- Experience of financial services
- A background in quality and risk management or compliance is preferred
- Experience of working remotely within a team.
