The opportunity

At EY, you’ll have the opportunity to build a career as unique as you are, supported by a global network, an inclusive culture and leading technology. We value your perspective and ideas, and we want you to help us build a better working world.

In today’s fast-moving transaction environment, making well-informed decisions is critical. As a Senior Consultant within our Transaction Diligence team, you will play an important role in helping clients navigate complex transactions by providing them with a clear understanding of the financial performance, opportunities and risks of the businesses they are looking to acquire, sell or invest in.

Based in Lisbon, you will join a highly experienced and collaborative team working closely with EY colleagues and clients across Western Europe. You will gain exposure to a broad range of companies, sectors and high-profile transactions, developing both your technical expertise and your commercial understanding of businesses.

Our core work focuses on Financial Due Diligence, analysing a target company’s historical and projected financial performance to identify key value drivers, risks, opportunities and sensitivities that could influence a transaction.

Your key responsibilities

As a Senior Consultant, you will take an active role throughout the transaction lifecycle and work closely with senior team members, clients, management teams and other EY professionals. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing Financial Due Diligence on companies involved in acquisitions, disposals and other strategic transactions;
  • Analysing historical and current financial performance to understand the underlying drivers of revenue, profitability, cash flow and working capital;
  • Reviewing business plans, budgets and financial projections, assessing key assumptions, trends, risks and sensitivities;
  • Analysing both financial and operational information to identify issues that could impact the value or structure of a transaction;
  • Participating in meetings and interviews with the management teams of target companies, helping to challenge assumptions and understand business performance;
  • Identifying and communicating key transaction considerations, potential risks, opportunities and areas requiring further investigation;
  • Preparing high-quality deliverables, including financial databooks, analyses, reports and client presentations;
  • Translating complex financial information into clear, concise and commercially relevant insights for clients;
  • Working directly with clients, investors, banks and other stakeholders throughout the due diligence process;
  • Collaborating with EY Transaction Diligence and broader Strategy and Transactions teams across Western Europe;
  • Building strong relationships with clients and contributing to a high-quality client experience;
  • Supporting and coaching junior colleagues, reviewing their work and contributing to their professional development;
  • Taking an active role in internal initiatives, including recruitment, key account development and broader team activities.

Skills and attributes for success

We are looking for someone who combines strong financial and analytical capabilities with commercial awareness and excellent communication skills.

You will enjoy working in a fast-paced, transaction-driven environment where priorities can change quickly and where the ability to understand a business beyond the numbers is essential.

To succeed in this role, you should be comfortable analysing large volumes of information, identifying the issues that matter most and transforming your analysis into practical insights and clear recommendations for clients.

You should also enjoy collaborating with multidisciplinary and international teams and feel comfortable interacting directly with clients and senior stakeholders.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in Financial Due Diligence;
  • Strong understanding of financial statements and key business performance indicators;
  • Ability to analyse financial and non-financial information and develop well-supported conclusions;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Excellent Excel, presentation and report-writing skills;
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining a broader commercial perspective;
  • Ability to communicate complex financial matters clearly and confidently;
  • Excellent written and spoken English;
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and international teams.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Previous experience in transactions, M&A or audit;
  • Experience working in a professional services environment;
  • Strong client-facing experience;
  • Exposure to international or cross-border transactions;
  • Experience analysing business plans and financial models;
  • Knowledge of German would be considered an advantage.
