The opportunity

 

We are seeking an accomplished Senior Manager to lead endtoend advisory and delivery initiatives across Insurance and Reinsurance Accounting & Reporting, covering ceded and assumed treaty accounting, GAAP/STAT/IFRS compliance, financial reporting, system transformations, and governance.

You will collaborate closely with onshore teams across the Americas, EMEIA, and APAC, oversee complex engagements, guide managers and teams, and drive operational excellence across diverse insurance and reinsurance portfolios.

This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership, the ability to influence senior stakeholders, and the capability to build highperforming teams while delivering highquality client outcomes.

Your key responsibilities:

Engagement Leadership & Quality Oversight

  • Lead and oversee delivery of complex insurance and reinsurance accounting and reporting engagements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with GAAP/IFRS/STAT
  • Review and guide the team’s work across treaty onboarding, Day1 setup, premium/loss booking, settlement execution, collateral monitoring, and financial reporting.
  • Direct daily engagement progress, monitor milestones, and communicate status updates and risks to leadership and clients.
  • Review and validate accounting conclusions, variance analyses, and technical interpretations of treaty terms and regulatory requirements.

Technical Excellence & Advisory

  • Provide expert technical guidance on reinsurance treaty structures (ceded and assumed), deposit accounting, retroactive covers, LPT/ADC, commutations, IBNR, and recoverable.
  • Lead research and interpretation of accounting standards (IFRS 17, LDTI, US GAAP, STAT) and provide technical memos, whitepapers, and issue resolutions.
  • Review and oversee development of accounting policies, disclosure requirements, and reporting frameworks across insurance and reinsurance portfolios.
  • Support regulatory reporting including Schedule F, Schedule S, Schedule H, and management reporting packages.

 

Process, Controls, & Transformation

  • Oversee SOX controls, control matrices, RACIs, process narratives, and operational governance for insurance and reinsurance cycles.
  • Lead transformation initiatives including automation, process optimization, system migrations, and standardization across multiple legal entities.
  • Ensure robust internal controls across settlement processes, treaty setup, data flows, and cross-functional dependencies.

CrossFunctional & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with underwriting, claims, actuarial, controllership, and finance teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of reinsurance data.
  • Manage senior stakeholder engagement, address complex queries, and provide proactive insights on accounting impacts, treaty performance, and regulatory developments.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for engagementlevel issues and guide client teams toward informed decisions.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Lead, mentor, and develop teams of managers, seniors and staff, driving performance excellence, coaching, and succession readiness.
  • Review deliverables prepared by the team, provide continuous feedback, and ensure adherence to EY methodologies and quality standards.
  • Contribute to practice development including training, solution development, thought leadership, and methodology enhancement.

 

 

Skills and attributes for success:

  • Strong command of Insurance and Reinsurance Accounting, including treaty mechanics, GAAP/IFRS/STAT frameworks, premium & loss accounting, reserves, and collateral management.
  • Ability to interpret and review complex treaty wordings and assess accounting impacts.
  • Expertise in project management across multidisciplinary teams and global engagement models.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to simplify complex issues for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving abilities, with a focus on accuracy, governance, and risk management.
  • Experience with reinsurance systems and reporting tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, GAIN, Cognos, Wings, Stargate, T1).
  • Demonstrated ability to drive transformation, automation, and process efficiency.

 

 

Professional experience:

Typical experience may include, whilst not limited to:

  • Experience working in an advisory-focused role within Insurance and/or Reinsurance accounting and reporting.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams of 20+ professionals, ensuring quality delivery and strong stakeholder communication.
  • Advanced experience with technical accounting matters, including treatylevel accounting, financial reporting, and preparation of technical memos/whitepapers.
  • Hands-on exposure to GAAP conversions across IFRS, US GAAP, and STAT, including implementation of new accounting standards (e.g., IFRS 17, LDTI).
  • Prior experience in a Big 4 or toptier consulting environment, leading solutions, service lines, or complex insurance/reinsurance engagements.

 

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • CA, CPA, ACCA (UK), or equivalent qualification
  • 10–12 years of relevant postqualification experience in Insurance/Reinsurance Accounting & Reporting
  • Experience working in Big 4 or complex advisory engagements with exposure to multiregional stakeholders

 

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Experience leading large teams (20+ members)
  • Handson expertise in IFRS 17, LDTI, GAAP conversions, financial reporting, and technical accounting advisory
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to connect financial outcomes with business drivers
  • A high degree of proactiveness, ownership, and leadership maturity
  • Interest in business and commerciality.
