SAP Controlling (CO) – Senior Consultant

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced SAP Controlling (CO)  Senior Consultant to support or lead the Controlling workstream for the SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA RISE Private Cloud Edition Brownfield Conversion.

This role focuses exclusively on Controlling simplification impacts, delta design, conversion readiness, configuration remediation, and end-to-end CO testing, ensuring a seamless transition into the S/4HANA Universal Journal and new CO architecture.

Primary Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Controlling Simplification Item Assessment

• Analyze ECC CO processes and identify all S/4HANA Controlling simplification impacts, including Universal Journal alignment.
• Assess impacts across key CO components:
  • Cost Center Accounting
  • Internal Orders
  • Profit Center Accounting (Realignment in S/4)
  • Product Costing (Standard/Actual)
  • COPA – Account-Based COPA (Mandatory in S/4)
  • Profitability Analysis reporting changes
• Validate master data readiness (cost centers, profit centers, activity types, cost elements, assessment cycles).

S/4HANA CO Delta Design

• Prepare detailed AS IS vs TO BE CO delta documentation for:
  • Universal Journal–based CO postings
  • New Margin Analysis (replacing costing-based COPA optional)
  • Material Ledger mandatory activation and impact on costing
  • Event-based production costing
  • Integrated CO FI real-time posting behavior
• Conduct workshops with Finance/Controlling stakeholders to finalize S/4HANA CO design decisions.

Configuration & Functional Remediation (CO)

• Update configuration for mandatory S/4 CO changes:
  • CO PA structures aligned to Universal Journal
  • ML-driven cost component split
  • Enhancements in costing sheets, activity type planning, overhead costing
  • Allocation/Assessment cycles redesign (where required)
• Validate and test S/4HANA Fiori applications for Controlling.

Testing & CO Functional Validation

• Prepare and execute SIT, Regression, and UAT cycles covering:
  • CO allocations, assessments, and distributions
  • Cost center planning and posting validation
  • Activity type confirmations and cost rollups
  • Product costing (planned/actual), WIP, variance calculations
  • COPA/Margin Analysis reconciliations post conversion
• Perform CO consistency checks during mock conversions (ML, costing sheets, CO objects).

Data, Migration & Integration Support

• Work with Data Teams to validate:
  • CO master data (cost centers, profit centers, statistical key figures)
  • Cost element mapping into Universal Journal
• Support financial and logistical integration testing (MM, PP, SD) to validate cost flows (GR/IR, production confirmations, variances, settlements).

Cutover & Go Live Support (CO Track)

• Define or support Controlling specific cutover tasks:
  • CO period open/close activities
  • Allocation cycle updates
  • Cost estimate releases (if part of cutover)
  • Final ML/costing validations
• Participate in mock runs, go live execution, and hypercare stabilization with a focus on cost flows and CO PA data correctness.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Documentation

• Collaborate with Controllers, Plant Finance teams, and business SMEs to validate S/4HANA CO design.
• Prepare high-quality documentation including functional specs, configuration docs, process flows, test scripts, and training content.
• Provide clear and timely status updates to project leadership.

Experience Requirements

• Senior Consultant (5–8 years)
• Strong ECC CO experience with exposure to at least one S/4HANA Finance or CO conversion.
• Good understanding of Universal Journal, Account-Based COPA, ML, and Product Costing.

Common Requirements (Both Levels)

• Solid understanding of ECC vs S/4HANA Controlling changes.
• Familiarity with CO period-end closing cycles, planning, costing, and reconciliation.
• Experience in client-facing delivery roles and working with Finance/CO stakeholders.
