The opportunity
In a plan to strengthen and extend our footprint in EY Enterprise Technology we are looking for a proven Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) Engineer to support and evolve EY's HCI platforms globally. The role will provide engineering, operational support, automation and lifecycle management for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI environments and associated technologies. The successful candidate will work with cutting-edge infrastructure technologies with a specific focus on virtualization, clustering, storage, security, resiliency and automation.
Your key responsibilities
The I&O Platform Infrastructure Hyperconverged Infrastructure Specialist provides technical support and engineering of complex nature for the firm's Azure Stack HCI platforms and associated infrastructure services. This professional applies knowledge of Windows Server, Failover Clustering, Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), Azure Stack HCI, networking and virtualization technologies to support enterprise-scale workloads.
The role requires in-depth knowledge of the firm's infrastructure to implement platform enhancements, lifecycle management activities, patching programs, security initiatives and operational improvements. The engineer will assist in maintaining highly available HCI environments across global data center locations while ensuring compliance, resiliency and operational excellence.
Skills and attributes for success
- Large-scale Windows Server Systems Administration experience.
- Strong experience administering Microsoft Azure Stack HCI platforms.
- Deep knowledge of Windows Failover Clustering technologies.
- Strong Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) design, administration and troubleshooting experience (exclusionary).
- Experience maintaining mission-critical production systems running in a data center environment (exclusionary).
- Experience supporting hyperconverged infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization technologies.
- Experience performing lifecycle management, upgrades and patching of HCI clusters.
- Experience with Cluster Aware Updating (CAU).
- Good networking knowledge including:
- VLANs
- NIC Teaming
- Switch Embedded Teaming (SET)
- RDMA
- SMB Direct
- Data Center Bridging
- Experience with PowerShell automation and scripting.
- Ability to create technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Knowledge of Azure hybrid management capabilities.
- Strong working knowledge of DevOps, Agile, Kanban, SCRUM and ITIL frameworks.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, management and global engineering teams.
To qualify for the role, you must have experience with
- Microsoft Azure Stack HCI administration and support — 5–7 years.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2019/2022/2025 administration — 5–7 years.
- Windows Failover Clustering administration and troubleshooting — 5–7 years.
- Storage Spaces Direct (S2D) design, support and operational management — 5–7 years.
- Hyper-V virtualization administration — 5–7 years.
- Cluster deployment, expansion and lifecycle management — 5–7 years.
- Cluster Aware Updating (CAU) implementation and administration.
- Host Guardian Service (HGS) administration.
- Shielded Virtual Machine deployment and management.
- Secured-Core Server technologies.
- PowerShell scripting and automation — 5–7 years.
- Firmware, driver and hardware lifecycle management.
- Server patching and maintenance management.
- Networking for HCI environments including:
- RDMA
- SMB Direct
- QoS
- SET
- VLANs
- Data Center Bridging
- Troubleshooting cluster performance, storage latency and resiliency issues.
- Storage enclosure and disk management.
- Azure Arc and Azure hybrid services integration.
- Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning for HCI platforms.
- Security hardening and vulnerability remediation of Windows Server platforms.
- VMware to Azure Stack HCI migration projects (preferred).
Ideally, you'll also have
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Stack HCI certification (desired).
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate (desired).
- Microsoft Azure Administrator certification (desired).
- Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect certification (better to have).
- ITIL v4 Foundation certification (exclusionary).
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator certification (better to have).
- Experience working with Dell AX nodes, Lenovo ThinkAgile, HPE or similar HCI platforms.
- Experience with Azure Local and future Azure Stack HCI roadmap technologies.
