Manager – Banking & Capital Markets (Accounting & Reporting)

Role Summary

As a Manager in FAAS – Accounting & Reporting, you will lead engagements for banking and capital markets clients, solving complex financial reporting challenges under IFRS with an emphasis on financial instruments (IFRS 9), disclosures (IFRS 7), and end‑to‑end financial statement preparation. You’ll coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams, shape technical positions, and drive high‑quality deliverables that meet client, regulatory, and internal quality expectations.

You’ll operate in a regional model that supports multiple markets (primarily MENA), bringing sector depth and delivery excellence to banking clients undergoing reporting change, regulatory scrutiny, and finance modernization.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting (Banking focus)

  • Lead IFRS 9 workstreams: classification & measurement (including SPPI), effective interest rate (EIR) computations, hedge accounting considerations, and expected credit loss (ECL) methodologies in partnership with client risk/credit teams; author/review technical position papers and disclosure memos.
  • Drive financial statement preparation (banking templates), note disclosures under IFRS 7/IFRS 9, and period‑end close support; coordinate tie‑out and disclosure checklists to ensure completeness and consistency.
  • Prepare or review accounting policy manuals and technical accounting papers on complex/novel transactions (e.g., derecognition, modifications, POCI assets) relevant to banks and NBFIs.

Regulatory Reporting Support

  • Support clients in regulatory reporting processes (e.g., periodic returns and templates), working with finance and regulatory teams to align accounting outputs with regulatory data needs and timelines; prepare filing‑ready packs and controls documentation.

Quality, Controls & Documentation

  • Establish engagement‑level quality plans, ICOFR/SOX‑relevant workpapers, and audit‑ready evidence across judgmental areas (ECL assumptions, overlays, staging triggers, significant increase in credit risk).

Client Leadership & Delivery

  • Serve as day‑to‑day engagement manager—scope, plan, and deliver projects; manage budgets, risks, and issue resolution; communicate progress and insights to senior client stakeholders.
  • Shape proposals and write points‑of‑view on emerging reporting topics (e.g., IBOR transition impacts on hedge accounting; disclosure trends).

Methods, Data & Tools

  • Champion the use of accelerators (e.g., IFRS 9 Impairment Analyzer) and data‑enabled workflows across close, disclosure, and ECL computation processes; drive adoption of analytics/visualization where appropriate (Power BI, Alteryx).

Candidate Profile

Must‑Have Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent (CPA/ACCA) with 6–9 years of post‑qualification experience, including strong exposure to banking financial reporting and instruments.
  • Deep working knowledge of IFRS 9/IFRS 7 and practical application in banks (classification & measurement, ECL, hedge accounting, derecognition), with a track record of drafting technical memos and financial statement disclosures.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi‑stakeholder projects and coaching teams in a fast‑paced, cross‑border delivery model.

Preferred Experience

  • Hands‑on support for regulatory reports/regulator interaction (in collaboration with client teams).
  • Exposure to IBOR transition accounting, treasury products, and hedge documentation/effectiveness assessment.
  • Familiarity with data/analytics tools (Power BI/Alteryx) to support disclosure tie‑outs, variance analysis, and ECL dashboards.

Core Competencies

  • Technical Excellence: IFRS interpretation, judgment on materiality and disclosures, articulation of alternatives and preferred views.
  • Project Management: Planning, budgeting, RAID management, stakeholder communications, and on‑time delivery.
  • People Leadership: Coaching seniors/AMs, objective setting, and feedback culture; ability to scale teams during peaks.
  • Client Centricity: Ability to translate regulatory and market changes into clear reporting impacts and actionable plans.

Key Deliverables & Success Measures (first 12 months)

  • On‑time delivery of A&R workstreams for at least 2–3 banking clients with CSAT ≥ target and zero critical quality issues.
  • Signed‑off technical positions across IFRS 9 topics (staging, overlays, modifications) and complete, consistent note disclosures at year‑end.
  • Process uplift: implementation of at least one accelerator (e.g., IFRS 9 analyzer or automated disclosure checklist) that reduces cycle time or review rework.
  • Team development: documented mentoring plan and capability uplift across juniors in banking A&R (e.g., structured IFRS 9 learning path coverage).

Working Model & Travel

  • Hybrid working with flexibility to collaborate across time zones; short travel for client workshops or quarter‑/year‑end support when required.

Why this role (for candidates)

  • You will operate at the intersection of banking and technical accounting, solving some of the most challenging reporting problems for leading institutions—backed by proven FAAS delivery patterns and sector assets in Banking & Capital Markets.
