EY Jamaica is recruiting for a Tax Manager who will join a team of tax professionals that services a portfolio of local, regional and global businesses.  This role offers the opportunity to work on complex Jamaican, regional and international tax matters, including corporate tax, indirect tax, incentives, cross-border transactions, transfer pricing, tax controversy and emerging international tax developments. The successful candidate will have direct exposure to senior client executives, regional leadership teams and EY's global tax network. The successful candidate will play a key role in the continued growth of EY Jamaica's tax practice and will have opportunities for progression, leadership development and increasing client-facing responsibility.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of tax advisory and compliance engagements, including planning, budgeting, resourcing, delivery, risk management and billing, and provide high-quality tax compliance and advisory services that are delivered on time, within budget and to EY’s quality standards.
  • Research and advise on complex tax issues using EY methodologies, tools, data analytics and AI-enabled technologies, tax legislation, case law, tax authority guidance, administrative practice and relevant international materials.
  • Draft, review and refine tax advice, technical memoranda, opinion papers, client correspondence and other written deliverables.
  • Identify areas of tax exposure and assist clients in managing tax risks, filing positions and interactions with the tax authorities.
  • Participate in managing compliance engagements and a compliance team by assisting with forecasting future compliance work, delegating work effectively and resolving staffing issues.
  • Build on technical competence by keeping up to date with Jamaican tax developments, regional and international tax trends, case law, legislative changes and emerging tax policy issues.
  • Maintain and build strong client relationships, manage expectations and support outstanding client service.
  • Contribute to business development and market-facing initiatives, including supporting proposals, client presentations and thought leadership.
  • Develop budgets, determine resource requirements, and direct/monitor engagements.
  • Coach, review and develop junior team members, including providing timely performance feedback and helping align assignments with their skills and development goals.
  • Demonstrate integrity, respect, professionalism, and sound judgement while maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and work products, as well as internal matters.

 

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge of Jamaican tax law and tax administration.
  • Demonstrated experience researching and analysing tax issues and preparing written advice or technical reports.
  • A proactive and solution-oriented mindset; and the ability to combine technical analysis with commercial awareness and practical recommendations that support client objectives while appropriately managing risk.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, budgets and stakeholders.
  • Strong interest in emerging tax issues, tax policy developments, digital transformation and the use of AI and technology in professional services.
  • Sound professional judgement, strong interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to team and work effectively in multidisciplinary and globally connected teams, to provide comprehensive tax solutions.
  • Experience managing client work, supervising team and delivering high-quality outputs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, with an appetite to learn and adopt new technology platforms and AI-enabled tools.

 

Our preferred requirements for this role include

  • A professional qualification as either:
    • Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA or equivalent; or
    • a qualified attorney-at-law, including completion of the Legal Education Certificate or equivalent qualification; with experience in taxation.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Law, Economics, Taxation, Business or a related discipline
  • At least 5-7+ years’ relevant tax experience, preferably including experience in tax advisory, tax compliance, legal practice, professional services, industry or a tax authority environment.
  • Demonstrated experience researching and analysing tax issues and preparing written advice or technical reports.
  • Experience managing client work, supervising team members and delivering high-quality outputs under deadline pressure.
  • Strong interest in emerging tax issues, tax policy developments, digital transformation and the use of AI and technology in professional services.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, with an appetite to learn and adopt new technology platforms and AI-enabled tools.
  • Broad exposure to tax advisory and tax compliance managerial, leadership, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills
