The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced AML Technology Lead to join our growing Banking & Capital Markets delivery team serving EY’s DACH practice. In this role, you will lead the implementation and evolution of financial crime technology solutions for major banking clients in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland — from transaction monitoring and sanctions screening to KYC automation and case management.

You will be the technical owner of AML delivery: shaping architecture, guiding developers, and working directly with EY local practice teams and client stakeholders to translate regulatory requirements into working systems.

Your key responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and implementation of AML platforms (Actimize, Norkom, FICO TONBELLER, SAS AML, or comparable)
• Own end-to-end delivery of financial crime technology projects: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, KYC/CDD, case management, regulatory reporting
• Configure and tune detection rules, scenarios, and thresholds in collaboration with compliance SMEs
• Design and oversee data integration flows between core banking systems and AML platforms
• Guide a team of AML developers and data engineers; conduct code reviews and ensure delivery quality
• Work closely with EY local practice teams (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) on solution design and stakeholder communication
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients on AML implementation best practices, platform capabilities, and regulatory alignment (BaFin, FINMA, FMA)
• Contribute to pre-sales activities: technical proposals, solution scoping, effort estimation
• Support the growth of our BCM capability by mentoring junior team members and contributing to knowledge sharing

Skills and attributes for success

We are looking for someone who can break down complex problems, communicate technical concepts clearly, and approaches challenges with an analytical mindset.

To qualify for the role, you must have

• Minimum 6 years of experience in financial crime / AML technology, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role
• Hands-on implementation experience with at least one major AML platform (Actimize, Norkom, FICO, SAS AML, or similar)
• Strong understanding of AML/CFT domain: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, KYC/CDD, suspicious activity reporting, typologies
• Solid technical background in Java, SQL, and data integration (ETL, APIs, messaging)
• Experience working with banking clients — ideally in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or comparable European markets
• Familiarity with European regulatory frameworks (AMLD, BaFin requirements, FINMA circulars)
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and deliver complex projects on time
• English: B2/C1 (working language of the team)
• German: B2 level or higher (must-have). Candidates with B1 who are actively progressing towards B2 will also be considered

Ideally, you’ll also have

• Experience with cloud-based AML deployments (Azure, AWS)
• Knowledge of machine learning approaches to fraud and AML detection
• Certifications: CAMS, ICA, or similar
• Exposure to broader financial crime areas: fraud, ABC, trade surveillance
• Previous experience in a consulting or professional services environment
