Python Technical Architect

Location: Wrocław / Katowice - 2 days in office / 3 days remote

Let us introduce you the job offer by EY GDS Poland – a member of the global integrated service delivery center network by EY.

EY Global Delivery Services means 40.000 specialists providing globally IT, project management and strategic business services to EY member firms. In addition we deliver support and solutions to clients from all over the world.

The opportunity

We are looking for a Python Technical Architect with strong expertise in Python, backend/cloud architecture and technical leadership, as well as experience in shaping technical direction and leading development teams. The person in this role will join the EY Digital team and help strengthen our cloud competency by designing modern, secure and scalable solutions.

Your key responsibilities

  • Own solution design for Python-based backend services, APIs, integrations, data processing components and cloud-native solutions.
  • Define technical architecture, implementation approach, non-functional requirements and engineering standards for complex solutions.
  • Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, observable, resilient and aligned with architectural standards.
  • Lead a small or medium development team: split work, remove blockers, support delivery and keep technical quality under control.
  • Review code, challenge design decisions and promote clean, testable and maintainable Python.
  • Drive architectural decisions, document trade-offs and provide guidance during implementation.
  • Work with stakeholders, analysts, architects, DevOps and engineering teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Share Python knowledge through practical sessions, examples, code reviews and reusable engineering guidelines.
  • Support and guide people in the Python competency: help them grow, promote good engineering practices and encourage active participation.
  • Hands-on approach to collaborating with R&D teams to identify and implement best practices and new solutions that may enhance the efficiency of business processes.
  • Willingness to report the progress of R&D projects and documenting the results of implementations, as well as post-implementation review.
  • Practical, hands-on expertise in designing, testing, and implementing solutions — from workshops and pilots to proof‑of‑concepts and deployment of new or improved system features.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Strong hands-on Python engineering background with the ability to solve complex technical problems directly.
  • Ability to explain architecture in simple terms and document technical decisions clearly.
  • Ability to balance business goals, delivery constraints, security, maintainability and long-term platform evolution.
  • Pragmatic approach to architecture: avoiding over-engineering while choosing solutions the team can build, operate and maintain.
  • Ability to raise the technical level of the team through reviews, pairing, mentoring and clear standards.
  • Active knowledge sharing and community-oriented mindset focused on making other Python engineers more effective.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • BTech/MTech OR Master’s in Computer Applications
  • 8+ years of commercial software engineering experience, including strong backend development in Python
  • Very good knowledge of Python: clean code, typing, testing, packaging, performance basics and debugging production issues
  • Experience designing backend services, REST APIs, event-driven components, integrations or data pipelines, including ownership of technical design decisions
  • Practical cloud experience with AWS and/or Azure, including designing secure, scalable, observable and cost-aware services
  • Experience defining or validating non-functional requirements such as performance, security, reliability, observability and maintainability
  • Experience leading developers technically: code reviews, technical decisions, mentoring and delivery ownership
  • Strong knowledge of architectural and design patterns, Clean Code, testing best practices and architectural documentation
  • Experience with CI/CD, Git and automated deployments
  • Experience supporting technical communities or competencies through mentoring, knowledge sharing, standards definition or reusable engineering guidance

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience with Python backend frameworks and ecosystem tools such as FastAPI, Django, Flask, SQLAlchemy, Pydantic, Celery or similar.
  • Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates or AWS CDK.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or similar delivery tooling.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, DynamoDB, Cosmos DB, S3, Blob Storage or similar database and storage technologies.
  • Experience with distributed systems, messaging, queues, idempotency, retries and failure handling.
  • Frontend awareness is useful, but this is not a frontend role.
