The opportunity

 We are looking for an experienced Mainframe DevOps Specialist to join our Financial Services technology team. In this role, you will design, develop, maintain and optimize mainframe-based applications, while supporting critical banking and tax‑related systems. You will contribute to continuous service improvement and operational excellence across legacy and modernized mainframe environments.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong hands‑on engineering mindset and the ability to work across the entire SDLC, from requirement analysis to deployment and support.

Your key responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain and optimize mainframe applications (PL/1, COBOL, JCL, DB2).
• Conduct requirement engineering, solution design and preparation of use cases.
• Prepare and execute unit, system and end‑to‑end test scenarios.
• Handle batch issues, technical incidents, user queries and general troubleshooting.
• Perform data extraction, SQL performance tuning and mass data updates.
• Collaborate with distributed teams in global banking environments.
• Participate in migration, optimization and modernization initiatives.
• Share best practices and support knowledge transfer within the team.
• Maintain high standards of documentation and engineering discipline.
• Participate in organization-wide quality, process improvement, or automation initiatives.

Skills and attributes for success

•  Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail and excellent time management.
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies and concepts.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills in English (C1 level), another European language is a plus.

To qualify for the role, you must have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in mainframe development or operations.

Strong hands-on experience with:

• PL/1, COBOL, JCL, DB2 SQL
• Batch management (TWS/IWS, Tivoli, Control-M)
• Mainframe DevOps and testing (unit, system, E2E)

• Experience supporting critical banking or tax infrastructure systems.
• Experience with incident handling, performance troubleshooting and system optimization.

Ideally, you’ll also have

•  Knowledge of additional technologies, e.g. REXX, IMS, MQ, CICS, ChangeMan, RDz/IDz, SpringBoot, Angular, Java.
• Understanding of RACF, security audits and access/resource management.
• Certifications such as ITIL v3, IBM z/OS fundamentals, or Mainframe Academy achievements.
• Experience with service transition, team leadership, or training.
