Cloud Architect – Banking with German

Location: Katowice - 2 days office / 3 days remote

Let us introduce you the job offer by EY GDS Poland – a member of the global integrated service delivery center network by EY.

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Cloud Architect to join our growing Banking & Capital Markets delivery team serving EY’s DACH practice. In this role, you will lead cloud architecture and migration initiatives for major banking clients in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland — from Azure landing zone design through application modernization to operational resilience under DORA.

You will be the senior technical authority on cloud for our BCM engagements: shaping target architectures, guiding engineering teams, and working directly with EY local practice teams and client stakeholders to translate business goals and regulatory requirements into secure, scalable cloud solutions.

Your key responsibilities

  • Lead the design of cloud architectures for banking clients, with primary focus on Microsoft Azure (and AWS where relevant)
  • Design and oversee landing zone implementations aligned with Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework and banking-grade security requirements
  • Drive application migration and modernization strategies: rehost, replatform, refactor, rebuild
  • Define reference architectures for cloud-native banking workloads, including microservices, API gateways, event streaming, and data platforms
  • Ensure solutions meet regulatory requirements including DORA, BaFin cloud guidelines (BAIT), EBA cloud outsourcing guidelines, and GDPR
  • Lead security and compliance architecture: identity and access management, network segmentation, encryption, key management, audit logging
  • Guide a team of DevOps, platform, and cloud security engineers; conduct architecture reviews and ensure delivery quality
  • Work closely with EY local practice teams on solution design, estimation, and stakeholder communication
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to clients on cloud strategy, migration planning, and operational resilience
  • Contribute to pre-sales activities: technical proposals, solution scoping, proof-of-concepts, effort estimation
  • Stay current with cloud platform evolution and emerging architectural patterns; share knowledge across the team

Skills and attributes for success

We are looking for someone who can break down complex problems, communicate technical concepts clearly, and approaches challenges with an analytical mindset.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in IT architecture, with at least 4 years focused on cloud architecture
  • Proven track record of leading cloud migration and modernization projects end-to-end
  • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure: compute, networking, storage, identity, security, data services
  • Strong understanding of landing zone design, hub-and-spoke topologies, enterprise-scale architecture
  • Solid knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates) and CI/CD practices
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration: Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, service mesh
  • Strong grasp of cloud security principles: Zero Trust, IAM, network security, data protection, secrets management
  • Experience working with banking or financial services clients — ideally in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or comparable regulated European markets
  • Familiarity with European financial services regulations impacting cloud adoption (DORA, BaFin BAIT, EBA outsourcing guidelines)
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and deliver complex projects
  • Microsoft Azure certifications: AZ-305 (Azure Solutions Architect Expert) or equivalent
  • English: B2/C1 (working language of the team)
  • German: B2 level or higher (good to have). Candidates with B1 who are actively progressing towards B2 will also be considered

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • AWS architecture experience and certifications (Solutions Architect Professional)
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform
  • Knowledge of FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Azure Monitor)
  • Experience with multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud architectures
  • Exposure to core banking platforms (Avaloq, Temenos, SAP Banking) and their cloud deployment patterns
  • TOGAF or similar enterprise architecture certifications
  • Previous experience in a consulting or professional services environment

What we look for

You will be joining a Banking and Capital Markets practice being built from the ground up, with the opportunity to shape how we deliver cloud transformation for the DACH banking market. You will work on real migration and modernization projects for Tier-1 banks — including the most demanding regulatory and security requirements in European financial services — with the backing of EY’s global banking practice..
