Associate - Accounts Receivable - Finance - Karachi
Job description
At EY, we're all in to shape your future with confidence.
We'll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go.
The opportunity
Accounts Receivable management in the MENA region is responsible for maintaining accurate receivables ledgers to enable efficient collections and support the firm's cash and liquidity position. As part of the Account Receivable Management Team (ARMT), you will help resolve unidentified cash, process AR adjustments and refunds, and perform client and interfirm account reconciliations in collaboration with finance and engagement teams.
This is an opportunity to join a new team and contribute to the timely resolution of AR-related issues across the MENA region. The role suits someone with strong attention to detail, the communication skills to influence diverse stakeholders, and the intellectual curiosity to understand why issues arise and how processes can be improved.
Your key responsibilities
- Take responsibility for accounts receivable ledgers across an assigned group of countries in the MENA region.
- Work with the AR cash application team to provide accurate instructions for allocating client payments.
- Obtain payment and remittance information from onshore finance teams and client-serving teams through effective follow-up and stakeholder engagement.
- Follow and further develop protocols that support payment identification and timely allocation, while building sustainable solutions to remove process obstacles.
- Proactively monitor unapplied cash and on-account payments, research unidentified items, apply payments appropriately, and support cash application corrections.
- Investigate and resolve engagement team queries concerning allocation, reallocation, and remittance checks against bank statements.
- Process client refunds by securing the required approvals and documentation and coordinating with Accounts Payable to ensure timely completion.
- Collaborate with the firm's interfirm finance team to resolve payment allocation issues relating to interfirm accounts.
- Continuously improve ways of working across the engagement-to-cash lifecycle in partnership with engagement teams, the cash application team, and other finance teams.
- Generate customer statements and balance confirmations and work with client Accounts Payable teams to complete account reconciliations.
Skills and attributes for success
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to review client and payment information, identify issues, and support timely payment allocation and resolution.
- Clear and effective communication skills, with the confidence to work across internal teams, local finance functions, engagement teams, and client organizations.
- A problem-solving mindset and the ability to constructively challenge existing approaches and influence stakeholders.
- Strong organization and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
- Sound numerical skills and practical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and SAP.
- Good knowledge of collections processes, systems, and tools.
- Appropriate language skills for supporting stakeholders across the MENA region.
- The ability to work autonomously within a diverse, multicultural, and matrixed organization.
To qualify for the role, you must have
- A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in finance, business, accounting, or a related field.
- At least two years of finance experience, with particular emphasis on accounts receivable, cash application, billing, and collections.
- Hands-on experience using SAP.
- For internal candidates, knowledge of the engagement lifecycle and an understanding of the firm's cash application processes.
- A strong drive to identify root causes and support remediation through a consistent problem-solving approach.
Ideally, you'll also have
- An understanding of service offerings and operating models within a professional services environment.
- Experience deploying new tools and ways of working across remote or geographically dispersed teams.
- Experience applying continuous improvement methodologies in a dynamic environment.
What we look for

You should be comfortable operating in an evolving, diverse, and multicultural environment where exceptional quality is expected.
