Assistant Manager – Tax operate (Audit of Tax)

Reporting to: Managers, Senior Managers, Associate Partners and Partners

 

The opportunity:

EY’s Tax Operate team provides corporate tax compliance, audit of tax, and advisory services to clients operating in a complex and evolving regulatory environment.

As an Assistant Manager, you will support the delivery of high-quality tax compliance and audit engagements, working closely with Managers and Senior Managers. You will apply your developing technical expertise to assist clients in managing their tax obligations, while gaining exposure to tax accounting, audit of tax, and advisory work.

You will work as part of a national team, building your technical capability and industry experience while contributing to the delivery of quality client service.

 

Your key responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of tax audits in line with EY global audit methodology, processes, and tools.
  • Prepare income tax computations, deferred tax calculations, and tax returns.
  • Draft technical memoranda, reports, and client deliverables for review by Managers/Senior Managers.
  • Supervise and review the work of junior staff (e.g., seniors and trainees) on engagements.
  • Assist in identifying tax issues and performing research to support technical conclusions.
  • Liaise with audit teams to support the delivery of tax audit procedures within agreed timelines.
  • Ensure accuracy and quality in all work performed, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Assist with engagement management, including tracking progress against budgets and timelines.
  • Support the development of junior team members through on-the-job coaching.
  • Contribute to internal initiatives and knowledge sharing within the team.

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • HDip (Tax) / MCom (Tax) / BCom Honours
  • Approximately 4 years relevant experience in a corporate tax environment
  • Experience in tax compliance, tax accounting, and/or audit of tax
  • Strong technical foundation and ability to interpret tax legislation
  • Good organisational and supervisory skills
