EY-Advisory - Data and Analytics – Senior Manager – Cloud Data Engineer/Architect

The opportunity
We’re looking for Solution Architect with over 15 years of experience to define and lead the implementation of end-to-end data-driven solutions for our most critical business challenges. Candidate should be strategic partner who can translate complex business requirements into robust, scalable, and future-proof architectural blueprints with mastery in specifically Hadoop, Hive, Spark, and Apache Iceberg who can guide technology selection, design cross-functional systems, and ensure our architecture delivers tangible business value.
Your key responsibilities
- Work as a Project Manager or Senior Manager with 15+ years of experience in software/data engineering with at least 7-8 years in a dedicated Solution Architecture or Principal Architect role designing enterprise-scale systems.
- Experience on architectural design for large-scale, complex data solutions encompassing data ingestion, processing, storage, and consumption, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Experience on Governing the use of core technologies (Spark for processing, Iceberg for open table format, Hive for governance, Hadoop foundations) across the enterprise.
- Experience as a central authority bridging the gaps between Data Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, Product Management, and IT Operations. Ensure architectural cohesion and buy-in across all stakeholders.
- Experience in Create and maintain solution architecture documents, diagrams, and roadmaps. Define and enforce architectural principles, patterns, and standards for the entire data platform.
- Experience in collaborating with senior business and product leaders to understand their objectives and challenges. Propose and architect innovative data solutions that create competitive advantages and unlock new capabilities.
- Expert-level understanding of Spark's architecture for both batch and streaming. Ability to design solutions that leverage its distributed computing power effectively.
- Experience on Identify technical risks, bottlenecks, and single points of failure in proposed solutions. Architect for compliance, security, data privacy, and cost management from the outset.
- Experience on architecting lakehouse solutions with Iceberg. Must be able to articulate its value over other table formats and design for its core features.
- Expertise knowledge of Hadoop (HDFS, YARN) and Hive. Understands its evolution and how modern tools like Spark and Iceberg interact with and can modernize a Hadoop-based data lake.
- Expertise Experience on designing and deploying large-scale data solutions on a major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including managed services (EMR, Databricks, Spark on Kubernetes, S3/ADLS/GCS).
- Experience in Python, Scala, or Java and masterful SQL skills for design and review purposes.
- Mentor lead data engineers and architects. Lead architecture review boards and provide expert guidance to implementation teams to ensure designs are executed correctly.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical executives and influence strategic decision-making.
- Lead the evaluation and selection of third-party tools, services, and technologies that complement or enhance the core open-source stack.
- A documented history of leading the architecture of a major data platform or transformational project from conception to delivery.
- Participate in organization-level initiatives and operational activities
Skills and attributes for success
- Use an issue-based approach to deliver growth, market and portfolio strategy engagements for corporates
- Strong communication, presentation and team building skills and experience in producing high quality reports, papers, and presentations.
- Experience in executing and managing research and analysis of companies and markets, preferably from a commercial due diligence standpoint.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- 10+ years of experience in Banking and capital markets sector preferred
- Cloud architect certifications
- Experience using Agile methodologies.
- Experience with enterprise architecture frameworks.
- Expertise in data governance, security, and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with real-time data architectures using Kafka or Flink.
