The EY Public Policy function focuses on the public policy and regulatory issues that affect EY’s businesses, the audit profession, and the broader capital markets. Our dialogue with policymakers, regulators, investors, and other stakeholders helps inform our views and actions as we navigate the complexity of operating across the globe in over 150 countries.  
 

The opportunity


Opportunity to join EY’s APAC Public Policy team. The EY Public Policy function works to advance EY’s strategic objectives in a number of areas, including policy related to audit and assurance; sustainability; financial services; technology (artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data rights, data localization, and other policy matters); and geopolitics.  

 

The Associate/Assistant Director will provide subject matter expertise and play a core role in the delivery of the APAC Public Policy team’s work on matters relating to policy, legislative, and regulatory issues around AI and digital technology across key APAC jurisdictions. In some cases, the Associate Director will also contribute to global public policy projects, engaging with the wider EY AI Strategy.    
 

Your key responsibilities 


As Associate/Assistant Director, you will work closely with other members of the APAC and broader EY Public Policy team, and with other EY teams and functions, to help advance EY’s AI-related public policy priorities through:

 

  • Engaging with policy makers and influencers
  • Monitoring AI regulatory and policy developments
  • Supporting EY’s internal processes for the development, use and governance of AI through insights on AI policy developments
  • Development of Points of View and thought leadership on AI policy matters
  • Public engagement at events and through publication of articles
  • Engagement with business associations, NGOs, think-tanks and academics that are shaping the AI policy debate
  • Supporting client engagement with insights on AI policy

 

The role will provide you with opportunities to further develop subject matter expertise on matters of vital importance to EY and our clients, as well as to work collaboratively with EY people from multiple service lines and

geographies.   

 

You will manage your own portfolio of work and support that of another senior member of the team, which will be overseen by the APAC Public Policy Leader and EY’s Global AI Ethics and Regulatory leader.
 


Skills and attributes for success 

 

  • An understanding of and interest in public policy, particularly with respect to AI and digital technology
  • Experience of engaging with AI policy makers and influencers in APAC including key jurisdictions such as China, Japan, Australia, and South Korea. 
  • Good understanding of the AI and digital technology policy landscape in APAC, including connections to (cyber) security and data rights and data management. In addition, expertise on AI policy and regulation globally beyond APAC would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of the core technical concepts and developments of AI technology and use cases, with an ability to explain these to an intelligent, but non-expert audience
  • Very strong English language writing skills, including the ability to tailor communications to different internal and external audiences
  • Ability to identify key external stakeholders for engagement and develop and execute stakeholder engagement plan
  • Ability to identify and analyze public policy developments, put them into context and identify/communicate key concerns and insight  
  • Agility and proven ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-time zone business environment, overseeing multiple tasks and projects concurrently
  • Strategic thinking skills and experience addressing complex challenges
  • Ability to navigate across a complex international organisation such as EY’s service lines and functions would be an advantage
     

To qualify for the role you must have 

 

  • 5+ years experience with at least 5 years in digital/emerging technology policy; AI policy (preferred), 
  • Knowledge of policy and regulatory issues related to AI and related digital technologies
  • The ability to work as a member of a diverse high performing team, including by collaborating, being transparent, taking initiative, and working hybrid/virtually if and as appropriate  
  • Ability to synthesize complex information from various sources
  • An understanding of – or a willingness to understand – EY’s business and the potential impact of AI regulation on EY’s business
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively and meeting deadlines on schedule
  • Strong analytical and rigorous mindset
  • English language communication skills (written and oral). Strong working knowledge in another Asian language would be a significant advantage.
  • Ability to deal with unexpected or last-minute requests, while executing more regular tasks and projects
  • Demonstrable integrity at all times, and exercise professional good judgement and discretion with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Candidate should be willing to consider a 12-month contract. Opportunities to extend the contract may arise during the contract period.
  • The posiiton's ranking will depend on the work experience.
     

Ideally, you’ll also have 

 

  • Strong Project Management skills
  • Experience of working on AI related projects
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent university degree in science/technology/AI ethics and law or other relevant field required.
    • Master’s/advanced degree or above in related field would be preferred,
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 8 years’ work experience, with at least 5 years in related areas
