Job purpose

The MDM Specialist will play a critical role in designing, governing, and maintaining enterprise master data across domains. The role requires a strong understanding of Master Data Management principles, SAP S/4HANA data structures, and data governance frameworks. The individual will be responsible for ensuring high data quality, supporting business processes, and enabling accurate reporting and analytics by maintaining a robust and scalable master data environment.

 

Responsibilities

Master Data Governance & Operations

  • Manage end-to-end master data lifecycle including creation, maintenance, validation, and deactivation
  • Ensure adherence to defined data governance policies, standards, and approval workflows
  • Establish and maintain system of record and ownership for master data entities.
  • Coordinate with global stakeholders to ensure consistency across regions and systems

Data Quality & Controls

  • Define and enforce data quality standards and validation rules
  • Monitor data quality metrics and implement remediation plans
  • Perform data cleansing, harmonization, and standardization activities
  • Ensure compliance with audit and control requirements

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Design and optimize master data processes (create/update workflows, approvals, integrations)
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and efficiency improvement
  • Support implementation of new governance models (centralized, hybrid, or distributed)

Technology & Systems

  • Work with SAP S/4HANA master data objects (Business Partner, GL, Vendor, Customer)
  • Support MDM tool evaluation, implementation, and enhancements
  • Collaborate with IT teams for system integrations and data architecture
  • Ensure proper configuration of workflows, approval processes, and audit trails

Stakeholder & Client Management

  • Act as the point of contact for business users on master data issues
  • Provide guidance and training to users on data standards and processes
  • Collaborate with finance, procurement, and IT teams for cross-functional alignment

Functional & Technical skills

Functional Skills

  • Strong understanding of finance master data (GL, cost centres, vendors, customers)
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and operating models
  • Ability to manage global stakeholders and work in a matrix environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA (Business Partner, Finance master data)
  • Knowledge of MDM tools, workflows, and data models
  • Understanding of data quality frameworks and data lifecycle management
  • Exposure to data migration, data cleansing, and integration processes

 

Qualifications & Experience

B. Com / M. Com / MBA / CA / CPA or equivalent qualification

8–12 years of relevant experience in Master Data Management or related domain

Experience working in SAP S/4HANA or large ERP environments

Prior experience in global/shared service environments preferred
