Assistant Director - Policy Lead Support

 

The opportunity

 

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the GDS Risk Management Services (RMS) Innovation Risk function in Gurgaon, India. We are looking for an experienced professional to join our team as Assistant Director- Policy Lead Support focusing on regulatory and public policy for AI and emerging technologies.

 

As Assistant Director - Policy Lead Support, you will help EY stay ahead of rapidly evolving AI regulation and expectations. You will manage key Responsible AI policy content, interpret regulatory requirements, and support the deployment of guidance and controls across service lines, functions, regions and geographies.

 

You will work with Public Policy, Legal/Compliance, Global Counsel's Office (GCO), Risk Management, technical teams and business leaders to translate external developments into practical, adoptable firmwide standards and guidance.

 

 

Your responsibilities

 

  • Will be aligned and work closely with the Global Policy lead
  • Coordinate with Public Policy on regulatory horizon scanning for AI and emerging technologies; assess impact by geography and produce clear, actionable guidance.
  • Manage Responsible AI Policy content, including interpretation, maintenance, FAQs and stakeholder communications.
  • Draft regulatory-aligned guidelines on emerging topics such as sovereign AI, transparency, accountability, high-risk obligations and open-source releases; refresh guidance as regulations evolve.
  • Partner with Public Policy, Legal/GCO, Compliance, Risk Management, InfoSec, Data Risk/Compliance and service line leaders to align positions, messaging and internal requirements.
  • Translate regulatory obligations into control requirements and deployment plans, including input to risk and control matrices for AI systems, support adoption across service lines, functions and geographies.
  • Support AI governance forums with regulatory updates, decisions required, action tracking and management reporting.
  • Provide input to Public Policy on topics requiring regulatory enquiries, supervisory interactions or coordinated EY positions.
  • Support internal audits and compliance activities, track findings, actions and remediation plans through closure.
  • Define standards for responsible communications and AI disclosures for client-facing and internal AI use.
  • Advise on third-party and outsourced AI regulatory expectations, including due diligence, contract clauses and transparency obligations, in partnership with Supply Chain and Legal.
  • Contribute to ERM risk theme materials covering AI regulatory risk, emerging obligations, risk scenarios and management reporting.
  • Provide enablement and coaching through training snippets, playbooks, templates and FAQs so practitioners can operationalize requirements.

 

 

Technical Skills

 

  • Public policy, regulatory affairs, legal/compliance or risk management experience with technology regulation, preferably AI, data and privacy regulation.
  • Strong policy drafting and interpretation skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical controls and guidance.
  • Knowledge of Responsible AI principles and AI governance frameworks, including concepts such as high-risk systems, transparency, accountability, documentation and governance artifacts.
  • Familiarity with the EU AI Act or similar AI governance frameworks will be an advantage.
  • Understanding of third-party risk and procurement or contracting implications for technology regulation.
  • Technical understanding of how AI systems and governance controls interact with regulatory requirements.
  • Comfort working with technical SMEs to ensure policies are implementable, measurable and aligned with responsible innovation practices.
  • Strong research skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel; familiarity with digital and generative AI tools for research and drafting is an advantage.

To qualify for the role, you must have

 

  • Post Graduate degree or equivalent professional qualification in Law, Public Policy, Regulatory Affairs, Risk/Compliance, Technology or a related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in public policy, regulatory affairs, legal/compliance, risk management or technology regulation roles.
  • Experience with AI, data, privacy or emerging technology regulation and responsible innovation practices is preferred.
  • Experience working with Public Policy functions, Legal/Compliance teams, Risk Management, technical SMEs and cross-geography stakeholders.
  • Working in a Risk Management domain is an advantage.
  • Exposure to third-party risk, procurement or contracting implications for technology regulation is an advantage.
  • Project/program management, risk, compliance or legal certifications are a plus.
  • Strong drafting, research, communication and Microsoft Office skills.
