The Team and the opportunity
At EY, our highly talented and motivated Digital Assurance and Quality Engineering team specializes in Data Transformation and Testing Services for our clients. We offer a comprehensive range of functional testing services, including requirements-based testing, integration testing, system testing, regression testing, and acceptance testing. Through agile QA and testing practices, we enable faster time-to-market, flexibility, and adaptability to changing requirements, along with automation and continuous testing to drive improved efficiencies. Our expertise extends to technical testing services such as test automation, API and microservices testing, mobile device testing, performance testing, and ETL testing, ensuring quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Test Consultant with a strong Utilities sector background to support the delivery of large-scale business and technology transformation programmes for leading Energy and Utilities organisations. The successful candidate will combine quality engineering expertise with Utilities domain knowledge, enabling them to understand complex operational processes, regulatory requirements, customer and billing systems, and industry-specific challenges.

Your key responsibilities
As a Senior Test Consultant with Utilities domain experience, you will help our clients solve a range of challenges, from responding to changing regulatory and operational demands to delivering large-scale technology and business transformation programmes. Leveraging your testing expertise and Utilities sector knowledge, you will play a key role in ensuring quality outcomes across complex delivery initiatives.
- You will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of IT Projects within the Utilities sector through methodologies such as Agile Scrum/Kanban and traditional Waterfall (when required), leveraging your domain knowledge and sector experience.
- Apply Utilities industry knowledge to support the testing of business-critical processes and systems, including Customer Information Systems (CIS), Billing, Metering, Asset Management, and Regulatory programmes.
- Participate in presentations and proposals for medium complex projects or elements of highly complex projects.
- Create high-quality work products and act as a subject matter resource on one or more services, leveraging knowledge and experience to shape services to client problems.
- Understand all our service offerings and actively identify opportunities to better serve clients.
- Maintains focus so that projects deliver on key priorities and dependencies.
- You’ll be responsible for contributing to proposals and client presentations for complex IT delivery projects that require disciplined quality assurance and testing expertise.
- Be responsible for your own self-development and maintain an educational program to continually develop personal skills.
- Actively contribute to EY’s Quality Assurance & Testing Community of practice.
- Understand all our consulting service offerings and actively identify opportunities to better serve clients and be able to build meaningful external relationships with our clients and internal relationships across service lines.
- Develop junior team members through effectively supervising, coaching, and mentoring.
- Understand and follow workplace policies and procedures.
Skills and attributes for success
To qualify for the role, you must have
- A strong academic record including a third level degree, preferably in a business or IT related discipline, from a recognised third level institution.
- Proven testing experience within the Utilities sector, with knowledge of industry processes, regulatory requirements, and core Utilities systems such as Billing, Customer Information Systems (CIS), Metering, Asset Management, or related platforms.
- QA accreditation (ISTQB Foundation, or a similar IT accreditation from a recognised third level institution or accreditation body).
- At least 3 years’ relevant experience working in a client-facing role for a leading consulting or professional services company on large-scale change/transformation programmes, systems integration programmes, or utility sector initiatives.
- Experience in Agile/ DevOps and traditional environments.
- Experience creating and maintaining Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTMs) to ensure end-to-end requirements coverage.
- Experience of functional and non-functional testing, including integration, regression, user acceptance testing (UAT), and system testing.
- Experience of creating test cases and acceptance criteria.
Ideally, you will also have
- Experience of using test management and defect management tools, including issue tracking and reporting tools.
- Experience supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT), including working with business stakeholders.
- Experience of manual testing and/or test automation, including supporting continuous testing practices within CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with troubleshooting and end-to-end defect management process.
- Experience within Utilities, Energy, Infrastructure, or other highly regulated environments.
