The team and the opportunity
EY UK&I’s Energy Transition team services clients across the energy industry, specifically organizations and organizations across the power & utilities value chain. We are contracted by our clients to deliver digitization, modernization, and decarbonization pieces of work, and serve as transformation solution partners to key energy organizations in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. We also support power & utility clients in delivering BAU initiatives related to grid planning, operations, asset management, maintenance, reliability, and markets. Our offerings span: market and technology design, engineering, technology implementation, data & analytics, strategy, policy, asset lifecycle management, and customer engagement activities in spaces such as: generation, transmission & distribution, operations, markets, retail, and regulatory reporting.
Your key responsibilities
We are looking for candidates who have experience working with operational technology and telemetered sites at power, water, and gas utilities. Focus areas we are looking to hire for include: OT architecture, OT cyber, and OT delivery. The candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing end-to-end OT solutions at critical facilities and at enterprise organisations.
Skills and attributes for success
This role is suitable for individuals with expertise and experience in a majority of some of the following areas, not necessarily all:
• Operational Technology Architecture
o Define OT solution requirements and support technology selection, design, testing, and implementation
o Design secure IT/OT integration architectures, including data flows, connectivity, access controls, and network segmentation
o Configure customisation of OT platforms and communications technologies
o Deliver solutions across SCADA, ADMS, DERMS, EMS, DCS, PLC, HMI, historian, RTU, and telecommunications environments
o Design OT data architectures and communications, spanning historians, contextualisation, asset/tag standards, and integration to enterprise systems, using DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-104, OPC UA, and MQTT/Sparkplug B over fibre, radio, and cellular bearers
o Address brownfield realities including obsolescence management, legacy RTU and SCADA migration, multi-vendor estates, and change control on live operational systems
o Provide subject matter expertise in the assessment and selection of operational technologies, capabilities, and plans. Advise clients on OT modernisation, digitisation, and technology roadmaps
o Produce solution designs, implementation plans, configuration documentation, go-live plans, roadmaps, and technical documentation
o Support project planning, testing, commissioning, and handover activities
o Deliver OT transformation and technology deployment programmes
• Operational Technology Cyber Security
o Conduct OT cyber security assessments, risk reviews, and remediation planning
o Design and implement secure OT architectures, including segmentation, remote access, monitoring, and access management controls
o Support threat detection, incident response, vulnerability management, and security assurance activities
o Support maintenance, enhancements, and patching of OT security platforms and applications
o Develop governance, security controls, and compliance requirements for OT environments
o Apply industry standards and frameworks including NIS2, IEC 62443, NIST, and ISO 27001
• Operational Technology Delivery
o Lead OT workstreams and delivery teams across the full project lifecycle.
o Manage vendors, systems integrators, and OEMs, including scope definition, technical assurance, and acceptance.
o Plan and execute migrations, cutovers, and phased rollouts across distributed and business-critical assets, with rollback and contingency planning.
o Report and track technical and delivery issues, risks, and dependencies to support PMO processes
