EY UK&I’s Energy Transition team services clients across the energy industry, specifically organizations and organizations across the power & utilities value chain. We are contracted by our clients to deliver digitization, modernization, and decarbonization pieces of work, and serve as transformation solution partners to key energy organizations in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland. We also support power & utility clients in delivering BAU initiatives related to grid planning, operations, and markets. Our offerings span: market and technology design, engineering, technology implementation, data & analytics, strategy, policy, and customer engagement activities in spaces such as: generation, transmission & distribution, operations, markets, retail, and regulatory reporting.We are currently growing the team. In addition to hiring for specific roles, we are looking for energy professionals with experience in any and all parts of the power & utility value chain. Specifically, we are looking for subject matter resources ready to transition their expertise to consult for key energy transition clients. To qualify for the role, you must have
We are looking for candidates who have experience working with energy and utility companies, across the value chain in technical, strategic, or technology roles. Focus areas we are looking to hire for include: Strategy & business development; Program management; Business architecture, planning, and implementation; Investment planning and economic valuation; and Energy market design.
Ideally, you will also have
- Strong analytical mindset with ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights
- Strong project management and stakeholder engagement abilities, with experience managing multiple priorities in dynamic environments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence decision-making at the executive level
- Passion for the energy sector, with a strong interest in utility transformation and emerging technologies
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the rapidly evolving energy landscape.
Specifically we are looking for individuals who have expertise and experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Utility strategy, vision, and communication development
- Lead and support strategic consulting engagements that drive digital transformation, innovation adoption, and business strategy execution for utilities
- Collaborate with senior client leaders and develop their respective vision, strategic objectives, delivery plan, and operating model
- Monitor evolving energy system requirements and develop business cases for clients to ensure future proof and resilient business models
- Conduct research and analysis on utility innovation and market trends.
- Stay up to date with advancements and opportunities, including power sector AI applications, data-driven decision-making, and grid modernization, and their impact on existing business structures.
- Translate strategy into action by supporting execution roadmaps and capability-building initiatives
- Craft strategic roadmaps and transformation plans, delivering high-quality insights that guide utility executives through complex challenges
- Design and facilitate engaging client workshops and stakeholder meetings to drive alignment and decision-making.
- Engage and develop reporting, and communications for various stakeholders including: regulators, aggregators, customers, developers, and vendors
- Energy solution implementation & delivery
- Stand-up transformational programs defining scope, cost, schedule, and resource requirements across the areas of people, process, technology, and data
- Identify and implement service delivery improvements to progress quality of service provided and process efficiency
- Lead workstream design, planning, and delivery for energy technology and business solutions
- Identify and resolve issues and risks that affect scope, quality, cost, schedule, and resources
- Develop and deliver status reports and stakeholder communications for various audiences within the power & utilities space
- Lead quality assurance for service delivery maintaining standard of high quality
- Develop project and product delivery and servicing plans that realize utility roadmap and objectives
- Utility technical and business work and operations
- Develop and deliver energy system planning projects
- Architect technical solutions
- Analyse and prioritize technology and product portfolios
- Perform analyses including: Power flow, cost-benefit, and modelling
- Lead and deliver network modelling activities
- Design market programs
- Technical competency with:
- Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS)
- Distributed Energy Resource management Systems (DERMS)
- Market Management Systems (MMS)
- Joint Transmission-Distribution operations
- Energy system flexibility
- Distribution Automation (DA)
- Perform grid analyses such as short circuit, hosting capacity, feeder load management, and timeseries power flow utilizing distribution management software including but not limited to: Siemens, Schneider, GE, Oracle, OSI, and Hitachi solutions
- Data & Advanced Analytics
- Identify, extract, and process grid model, metering, energy pricing, weather, and other data from various sources and perform data manipulation to facilitate required studies and analysis. Assess, prepare, cleanse, migrate and provide the data as part of systems implementation projects
- Design, plan, and execute data migration from and across client systems
- Model and forecast future energy scenarios using client specific data, industry forecasts, and other benchmark models
- Enhance analysis to translate to insights using advanced data processing functionality including machine learning and/or AI applications. Validate data and results to identify required data quality enhancements
- Design data preparation initiatives tied to transformation projects at utilities, identifying potential challenges and mitigations
- Report on progress of large scale data initiatives to business leadership and identify data quality metrics supporting overall utility data strategy initiatives
- Energy transition service line operations:
- Develop go to market materials and case studies for the Energy Transition service offering. Present go to market materials and case studies during client facing workshops
- Develop customized proposals for global Power & Utilities clients matching client objectives with the appropriate scope, schedule, cost, and resourcing to be delivered
- Evaluate and prioritize pursuit opportunities with financial, contractual, legal, cultural, and resourcing considerations
- Develop thought leadership articles and present at industry events on Energy Transition topics bringing credibility and awareness to EY’s Energy Transition service offering
