You will join the EY’s Sustainability Technology team within Technology Consulting, working closely with communities of sustainability and technology focused professionals who work together to deliver this change, sharing modern engineering enablement and smart automation to optimise delivery and speed to outcome.  We embed digital sustainability across people, process, and technology to enable more effective governance and efficient business operations. Our solution provides clients with sustainability digital services across ESG, EHS and Sustainability in collaboration with our EY Partner Ecosystem.  
    
These teams have deep functional knowledge and experience across our client’s core business functions, combined with deep technical skills to lead and deliver business outcome led high quality client solutions. Our management consultants and our technology consultants are the same – client focused, functional advice combined with technology enablement, one team, one dialogue, driving change and outcomes.

 

The role as Director is a fantastic opportunity to lead the translation of clients’ Sustainability and ESG challenges, leveraging strong commercial acumen and technical expertise, into key business and functional requirements, to build digital solutions that drive value for their customers and employees. You will play a key role in supporting the development and strengthen existing client relationships and help our clients navigate the complex Sustainability issues facing their business. Your key responsibilities

 

Market / Client Centricity:

Your role will be to focus on EY’s clients across various sectors, Manufacturing, Food, Materials, Logistics and Public Sector (Infrastructure, Government and Health) to drive opportunities, relationships and profitable revenue from Sustainability-led digital transformation service proposition. You will work to develop your own network and relationships at the client, understand their issues and, from that, develop service line solutions and drive incremental profitable revenue. You will work closely with Lead Partners, Sector Leads, other Business Development leads and the EY alliance partner network.

  • Identify and gather information on new client and sector issues through meetings and share this effectively within Tech Consulting.
  • Facilitate expansion of points of contact between EY and the client. Create, maintain and drive the execution of the relationship map and plan to develop many to many contacts.
  • Personally lead development of those relationships where EY has no existing relationship, introducing and supporting connections for specialists to then win work
  • Develop peer relationships with client senior management, and together with the Sustainability Lead Partner, build Board and ExCo level connection
  • Co-ordinate client relationship events and ensure return on investment is measured through deepened relationships and increased opportunity for EY to work with the client.
  • Lead the origination of client’s solutions to their digital-related challenges in sales and/or service functions.
  • Lead the bidding, winning and delivering of customer and digital transformation engagements of significant size and scope.
  • Focus on current issues to ensure that relevant time sensitive solutions and ideas are communicated to clients using internal network to identify EY’s angle and develop a proposition to take to the client
  • Identify white space at the client/sector and individuals to target. Lead on developing and driving plans
  • Boost sales conversion through deploying rigorous sales processes, pricing, contracting and negotiation, to win work across multiple channels
  • Ensure all sales activities are consistent with EY account plan sales process, client service meetings, client service reviews etc.
  • Act as a focal point for selling new propositions, working closely with the Sector Lead to drive specific agreed topics across the Sector
  • Actively seek opportunities to add more value to the client, through cross-functional solutions
  • Provide visibility of sales pipeline by ensuring opportunity management systems are kept up to date 

    
Engagement Delivery:

Work with the client to shape and develop their transformation roadmap and change portfolio on the chosen Sustainability platforms.

  • Act as Delivery QA and escalation point for a multitude of concurrent delivery engagements.
  • Ensure that customer and digital transformation projects or their work-streams within a large engagement are effectively scoped, managed and delivered on time, to budget and within EY’s agreed risk frameworks.
  • Have a strong, working knowledge of Design initiatives and how to integrate these into a transformation project
  • Be responsible for building and executing the project plan and managing any risks and issues appropriately 
  • Help develop projects’ Business case and benefits tracking
  • Work with Engineering team to prototype, test, integrate technology

    
People Leadership:

Line management of Senior Managers and Managers within the team, coaching, guiding and helping them grow to their full potential.

  • Focus on own development.
  • Continuous meaningful career development and performance review conversation with direct reports
  • Lead, manage and maximise the performance of project teams when acting as the Engagement/Delivery Lead.


Skills and attributes for success

 

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • Significant experience in Sustainability digital transformation leveraging leading technology platforms, ecosystems, and other emerging technologies
  • Experience in managing digital transformation projects across carbon accounting, net zero, EHS compliance and transformation, ESG reporting, supply chain, human rights, circular economy, and biodiversity
  • Experience with leading sustainability reporting frameworks (GRI, CDP, TCFD, SASB etc.) and mandatory reporting (SECR, EU Taxonomy, ESRS, etc.)
  • Excellent project management skills including experience in large cross functional and/or cross geographical programmes 
  • Experience of leading and delivering ‘connected consulting’ programmes – overseeing teams outside of Front Office and Digital to deliver a wider transformation programme
  • Experience in managing client relationships
  • Leading bid teams, including demonstrable examples of winning revenue for a business
  • Articulate the value of Sustainability Technology and emerging technologies in business to a non-technical audience in a clear and compelling fashion.
  • Run compelling workshops, to extract and challenge information from client SME’s and successfully guides participants through unknown territory.
  • Solid knowledge of the design thinking ethos of human centre design and ability to adopt it to solve client issues.
  • Strong understanding of the application of agile methodology in both product development and organizational structure.
  • Creative problem solving ability, inquisitive mind-set, comfortable with working in ambiguous situations.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent commercial awareness.
