Role Purpose:
The Level 1 Infrastructure Managed Services Engineer will provide frontline support for client infrastructure, assisting in the management and maintenance of compute, networking, storage systems, backup devices, and related software. The role involves resolving initial incidents, maintaining system stability and performance, and adhering strictly to security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the first point-of-contact for client infrastructure support queries.
- Resolve initial infrastructure incidents based on documented procedures and runbooks, escalating more complex issues as required.
- Support basic management activities related to Servers, Storage, Networking, and Hypervisor environments.
- Perform routine checks, patching, and software updates under supervision.
- Assist in the management of backup and recovery processes.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of support activities and procedures.
- Adhere strictly to client-specific security policies and standards.
- Provide operational support for network configurations including switches, VLANs, and port management.
- Collaborate effectively within the infrastructure team and communicate professionally with clients.
- Escalate incidents promptly to senior engineers or management when necessary.
Required Skills and Experience:
Technical Experience:
- Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI): Basic familiarity with Fujitsu Primergy Servers or similar HCI platforms.
- Hypervisors: Exposure to Oracle KVM and/or VMware ESX environments.
- Operating Systems: Operational experience with Oracle Linux (versions 7.9 and/or 8.9 preferred).
- Backup Solutions: Awareness or experience with enterprise backup systems (Veritas NetBackup preferred).
- Monitoring/Management Tools: Exposure to tools like VMware vCenter, Fujitsu ServerView Operations Manager, or Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) is advantageous.
- Server Operations: Basic proficiency in server operations, maintenance tasks, and performance monitoring.
- Patching and Updates: Familiarity with patching processes for Linux-based platforms.
- Application Environment: Exposure or basic understanding of infrastructure supporting Oracle enterprise applications (EBS, PMS).
- Identity and Access Management (IAM): Basic familiarity with IAM platforms (Okta desirable).
Networking Experience:
- Hands-on experience with basic network configurations, VLAN management, and port troubleshooting.
General Skills:
- 1 - 3 years' experience in an IT support role, ideally within Managed Services or Infrastructure Support.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions.
- Ability to follow structured procedures and guidelines.
- Commitment to professional development and adherence to security best practices.
Qualifications:
- Third level qualification in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience.
- IT professional certifications (Oracle Linux, VMware, ITIL foundations, etc.) advantageous but not mandatory.
