Your key responsibilities
The Accounts Payable Finance Officer will play a key role in ensuring the efficient, accurate and compliant operation of the organisation's accounts payable function. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing and managing supplier transactions, maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring compliance with public sector procurement, taxation and VAT requirements, and supporting the delivery of a high-quality finance service.
The role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of accounts payable processes within a public sector environment. The postholder will contribute to the maintenance of robust financial governance and support continuous improvement across finance operations.
Essential Criteria
Candidates must demonstrate:
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum NFQ Level 5 qualification in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least 3 years' experience working in an Accounts Payable, Finance Officer or similar finance role.
- Experience processing high volumes of invoices and supplier payments.
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central or integrated financial management systems.
- Experience working with financial accounting systems.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end Accounts Payable processes and controls.
- Working knowledge of Irish VAT legislation and taxation requirements relevant to accounts payable.
- Knowledge of public sector financial procedures, governance requirements and procurement controls.
- Understanding of audit requirements and financial compliance obligations.
Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues effectively.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality customer service.
- A proactive approach to continuous improvement and process enhancement.
Desirable Criteria
The ideal candidate may also have:
- A recognised accounting technician qualification or be studying towards a professional accounting qualification.
- Experience working within the public sector or a regulated environment.
- Experience supporting VAT returns and tax compliance activities.
- Knowledge of public procurement processes.
- Experience supporting internal or external audits.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
