Job Summary
As an Independence Professional, you’ll help client service or CBS teams comply with the Firm’s Independence policies and associated regulations, when working with clients, vendors and others. You’ll consult on one or more Independence policies, procedures or processes. You’ll also review the work product as it relates to Independence, and review new and existing client or vendor relationships to mitigate the risk to the Firm. In addition, you’ll interact with executive level personnel across the MENA regions and across broad service and industry lines.
The projects you’ll work on are complex in nature and may impact country/region performance, ongoing relationships with major clients or important vendor relationships. In this role, you’ll have fairly broad decision-making capacity, subject to review by the MENA Independence Leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the MENA Independence Team in the operation and maintenance of the independence policies, procedures and compliance across the MENA region.
- Lead complex projects and assignments, or key aspects of assignments. This may include leading full country compliance reviews, or resolving issues in highly complex business or other relationships
- Use knowledge gained from in-depth client service or infrastructure experience, to resolve Independence policy and procedure issues, violations and concerns
- Assist in providing coordinated advice and assistance and is involve in the discussion and resolution of high complex situations and issues. This include consulting with Global Independence, IFAC center executives and others as appropriate
- Engage with groups across service lines, industry sectors and Areas to develop strategies or programs. These will educate and improve understanding and reduce the number of Independence policy violations
- Deliver training and presentations on new developments and their impact
- Provide technical support to management and employees regarding Independence tools and processes designed to help meet the firm’s compliance responsibilities and to ensure that these are understood and adopted by the Firm’s professionals
- Respond to policy interpretation and other independence queries on daily basis.
- Gain an understanding of key requirements of regulators' Independence rules and firm policies.
- Identify emerging risks and propose ways to overcome these
- Demonstrate a high level of general technical knowledge. Keep up-to-date with emerging knowledge, trends and lessons learned in Independence and related areas
- Through regular interaction, develop relationships and build a network of people within professional networks, and across the firm. Use these relationships to proactively identify issues
- Exercise significant levels of independent judgment and discretion when analyzing complex issues and risk across industry and service lines. Use your knowledge and experience, and refer to the firm's Independence and related policies and regulations, to identify appropriate opportunities and solutions
- Acting directly or through Independence leaders, make recommendations to service line, Area and industry executives on relationships and other compliance issues
- Gain a solid understanding of relevant EY business and develop a broad knowledge of the Firm and its practices
- May lead team members engaged in carrying out Independence functions and reviews. This may include assigning work and reviewing performance, or researching or verifying information relating to consultations
