Service Delivery Center, Technology – Back End Developer, Staff

At EY, you’ll have the chance to build a career as unique as you are, with the global scale, support, inclusive culture and technology to help you become the best version of you. We’re counting on your unique voice and perspective to help EY become even better, too. Join us and build an exceptional experience for yourself, and a better working world for all. As a Staff Back End Developer within the Service Delivery Center, you will support the design, development, and delivery of scalable microservices and event-driven solutions that power enterprise-level custom applications supporting strategic business programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy scalable backend services and RESTful APIs supporting enterprise application workflows

  • Contribute to the implementation of microservices-based and event-driven systems to enable reliable data processing

  • Translate business and functional requirements into maintainable and secure backend components

  • Support system performance optimization through efficient data access, asynchronous processing, and caching strategies

  • Apply foundational resilience patterns within distributed systems

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (frontend, integration, DevOps, business stakeholders) in an Agile and Test-Driven Development (TDD) environment

  • Ensure adherence to security, scalability, and performance best practices across services

  • Contribute to solution design documentation, including APIs and service interactions

  • Support the full SDLC, including development, testing, deployment, and ongoing enhancements

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • 2+ years of backend development experience in enterprise environments

  • Strong foundation in backend development (e.g. Core Java, Spring Boot, RESTful API development, multithreading, and concurrency)

  • Experience contributing to microservices and distributed systems (e.g. service interaction via APIs, basic resilience patterns, system integrations)

  • Experience working with data and persistence layers (e.g. SQL/MS SQL, query development, ORM frameworks such as Hibernate/JPA/Liquibase)

  • Hands-on exposure to event-driven and asynchronous architectures (e.g. Kafka or RabbitMQ, asynchronous processing, caching concepts)

  • Experience implementing or consuming APIs with basic understanding of security concepts (e.g. OAuth2, JWT) and documentation tools (e.g. Swagger/OpenAPI).

  • Experience working with containerization platforms (e.g. Docker) and exposure to orchestration environments (e.g. Kubernetes).

  • Experience working in Agile and TDD environments

  • Ability to contribute to technical documentation and follow established design standards

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience with cloud-native development (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP).

  • Experience with code quality and static analysis tools (e.g. SonarQube, PMD, Checkstyle)

  • Experience with observability and monitoring frameworks (e.g. Datadog, Splunk, Grafana)

  • Experience with advanced database optimization techniques (e.g. partitioning, performance tuning)

  • Experience with API gateways or service mesh architectures

  • Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments
