The team also equips EY’s 400,000 professionals to have insightful client conversations and drive growth. The team’s compelling insights help EY win in the market by creating new client opportunities and originating work, strengthen client relationships by proactively taking them new insights, and shape EY’s positioning and brand through distinctive leadership.

The opportunity

The Oil, Gas and Chemicals (OGC) sector is in the midst of a period of dynamic change. Geopolitics, global economics, regulations and customer expectations are upending traditional business models and forcing leading companies to innovate even legacy businesses to retain competitive advantages. EY’s OGC practice works with the leading companies in this sector providing strategy formulation, transactions, business improvement and optimization, taxation and assurance services. Sector Insights helps connect those trends effecting the industry and the business problems they create to EY’s network of professionals.

As an OGC Lead Analyst at EY, you will be at the forefront of these changes, helping stakeholders navigate complexity and unlock value in a critical sector. OGC growth and opportunities are important components of EY’s overall ambitions in Industrials and Energy. You will lead an Insights team that will be responsible for developing analysis and differentiated perspectives on key business challenges our clients face and assisting our account teams in having a greater impact.

You will be an expert on key OGC topics, leading the development of EY's distinctive perspective on client issues within the sector. You will lead the Insights programs focusing on the signature issues faced by OGC companies (such as, formulation of strategies, allocation of capital, impact of mergers and acquisitions, cost competitiveness and downstream market dynamics) delivering high-impact analysis and insights and its activation with clients to position EY in the market and drive commercial value. Recognized as a subject matter expert and strategic advisor to senior clients, you will set the insights priorities with the Global OGC Sector Board and be sought after by senior partners to provide analytical support and strategic advice on OGC developments to both EY leadership and clients in your areas of specialism.

Your key responsibilities

  • Executive impact: Engage with and challenge senior stakeholders, providing experiential and provocative perspectives on the issues, challenges, and opportunities facing the OGC sector globally. Develop strong internal and external relationships, participating in client meetings, roundtables, and other events, and serving as a media spokesperson for the OGC Sector.
  • Strategic leadership: Establish the Insights strategy for the OGC Sector, driving the development and co-creation of insights beyond publicly available information. Ensure an outcome-focused approach to creating and activating external thought leadership, identifying cross-cutting Point of View (POV) sharing opportunities, and collaborating with other Insights teams.
  • Analytical responsibilities: Combine multiple perspectives and sources to develop compelling points of view that drive results. Identify issues and trends that translate into key market-facing initiatives and opportunities for EY, using both qualitative and quantitative research and analysis methodologies.
  • Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Work closely with Insights leadership and other Analysts to support OGC Sector leadership and other senior stakeholders. Drive greater connectivity within the OGC sector and across other parts of EY by using strong relationships to share information and convene groups around common issues. Share best practices with colleagues across teams, contributing to the development of core products and services to drive excellence and consistency across Insights.
  • Teaming and mentoring: Act as a role model within Insights and the OGC sector, championing the use of insight methodologies and positively influencing change. Operate agilely to work across topics, as needed, and pivot to support priorities in other domains. Lead a team of analysts with responsibility for performance and resource management and coaching.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Outstanding executive-level presentation skills, with a track record of challenging and shaping perspectives of senior OGC clients and internal decision-makers.
  • 12+ years of experience working at a senior level in a fast-moving, client-driven environment. Expertise in analysis and research specifically related to the competitive landscape in the oil and gas and chemicals industry and assessment of company performance against strategic objectives. This experience should include qualitative analysis of diverse strategic objectives pursued by the leading companies in this sector.
