EY's National Tax Department (NTD) serves high-profile clients by providing a range of tax planning and tax-related advisory services. The combination of knowledge and experience forms the basis of our ability to assist clients in meeting their business objectives. The Exempt Organizations (EO) Tax Services practice operates within the NTD, and focuses exclusively on tax exempt organizations, including: universities, health care systems and high profile charities that are integral to the well-being of their communities. As part of the EO team, you will have the chance to help ensure these organizations maintain their tax exempt status and are viable to serve their exempt purpose for years to come.

As a member, you will build on your knowledge of tax exempt organizations and advise how to maintain their exemption from paying taxes. You will also benefit from being mentored by nationally recognized tax professionals who include some of the firm's most senior tax talent.

As a Staff member in our Tax – Business Tax practice, you’ll be at the forefront of providing tax planning and advice for corporate taxpayers, partnerships, joint ventures, and other business entities. You’ll guide clients through the complexities of domestic tax laws, identifying exposures and risks across diverse business operations. Your expertise will help shape alternative solutions to manage risks and represent clients before tax authorities in matters related to controversies and audit investigations. You’ll also advise on technical tax matters within domestic transactions and assist clients in establishing, incorporating, registering, and closing business structures, always ensuring compliance with specific tax rules and regimes applicable to a specific organizational context.

  • Delivering tax planning and advice for a variety of business structures.
  • Identifying and managing tax exposures and risks.
  • Representing clients in tax controversies and audit investigations.

 

Your key responsibilities

As an Experienced Staff, you'll provide clients with tax guidance and planning related to protecting tax‑exempt status, preparing and reviewing tax returns for exempt organizations and their taxable affiliates (990s/1120s/1065s and related filings, including international filings), and supporting IRS audit defense strategies. While focusing on key client issues in federal taxation, the EO practice invests in training its team to develop technical skills around new areas of the law. You’ll gain insight into how tax‑exempt organizations carry out their missions within their communities.

In this role, your core purpose is to contribute to the delivery of processes, solutions, and projects by researching and presenting relevant information to inform recommendations. You’ll be accountable for your own work, meeting required targets that impact your immediate team, and supporting client service, quality, risk management, and business growth. You’ll spend most of your time defining and executing deliverables, engaging in live interactions with project teams and clients. This position presents challenges such as interpreting unusual circumstances, applying discretion, and demonstrating judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. You’ll learn to navigate complex problems and develop analytical skills in a dynamic environment. The role is based in Buenos Aires, with regular travel required to meet external client needs.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • Bachelor’s degree required (4-year degree) supported by significant tax or legal experience; MST, MAcc, JD/LLM preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or active state bar membership or progress toward certification
  • Understanding and experience with tax-exempt and non-profit taxation
  • Strong analytical skills, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills; problem-solving ability and attention to detail
  • 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in professional tax organization, law firm, or IRS

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience in large tax-exempt organization tax compliance/consulting in either professional tax firm, IRS or law firm
  • Experience in client-facing roles.
  • Familiarity with domestic tax laws and regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in hybrid environments.
  • Strong commercial acumen and learning agility.

  • We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business.  The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $63,500 to $104,800.  The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $76,200 to $119,200.  Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography.  In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
  • Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
