Hei Oranga Iwi | The opportunity
As businesses navigate evolving tax obligations, changing regulations and continued advances in technology, clear and commercially focused indirect tax advice is increasingly important.
Our Indirect Tax team is seeking an experienced Manager to support organisations across a broad range of GST, customs and international trade matters. You will work directly with clients to understand their business needs, manage tax risk and identify opportunities to strengthen their overall indirect tax position.
This role offers the opportunity to lead varied advisory and compliance engagements, contribute to technology-enabled solutions and collaborate with specialists across EY. You will also play an important role in developing junior team members and building trusted, long-term client relationships.
This is a fulltime position based in our Christchurch office. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.
Ko Tō Rourou | Your key responsibilities
You will manage a diverse portfolio of indirect tax engagements, combining technical knowledge with commercial insight to deliver practical and high-quality outcomes for clients.
- Lead indirect tax advisory, compliance and project engagements, including transactions, assurance reviews and due diligence, while providing clear and practical guidance on complex GST, customs and international trade matters.
- Support clients to identify and manage indirect tax risks, meet regulatory obligations efficiently and recognise opportunities to improve processes, controls and their broader tax position.
- Build trusted relationships with key client stakeholders, manage multiple engagements across different sectors and work collaboratively with EY teams to deliver coordinated solutions.
- Coach and develop junior team members, contribute to a supportive and inclusive team environment, and assist with the continued growth of the Indirect Tax practice.
Ngā Pūkenga | Skills and attributes for success
You will bring strong indirect tax experience, sound commercial judgement and the ability to translate technical matters into clear, practical advice. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities and building effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Demonstrated experience in GST, customs, international trade or a related area of indirect tax, ideally gained within professional services, a law firm, government or a commercial environment.
- Strong project and stakeholder management skills, with experience delivering advisory or compliance engagements and communicating complex information clearly to a range of audiences.
- A collaborative leadership approach, including the ability to support, coach and develop others while contributing positively to an inclusive, high-performing team.
- Experience with tax technology, data analytics, enterprise resource planning or visualisation tools such as SAP, Oracle, JDE, Alteryx, Power BI or Tableau would be advantageous but is not essential.
