EY GDS – Data and Analytics (D&A) – Business Analyst – Banking Domain- Senior
As part of our EY-GDS D&A (Data and Analytics) team, we help our clients solve complex business challenges with the help of data and technology. We dive deep into data to extract the greatest value and discover opportunities in key business and functions like Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Retail, Manufacturing and Auto, Supply Chain, and Finance.
The opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst with strong business, functional, and data analysis expertise in the Banking domain. This role blends Business Analysis and Project Management responsibilities, supporting end-to-end delivery of transformation initiatives across retail banking, corporate banking, lending, payments, regulatory compliance, and financial operations.
You will collaborate closely with stakeholders, architects, developers, data engineers, and product teams to drive high-quality requirement definition, solution alignment, delivery governance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Requirements Gathering & Business Analysis
- Gather, analyze, and document business, functional, and non functional requirements across multiple banking products and operational workflows.
- Conduct stakeholder interviews, requirement workshops, and deep dive analysis sessions to uncover business needs and clarify use cases.
- Create user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, functional specs, and wireframes as required.
- Maintain clear and structured requirement traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
- Translate business needs into actionable specifications that can be accurately implemented by technical teams.
- Product Backlog & Planning
- Define, maintain, and refine the product backlog, prioritizing based on value, risk, and business impact.
- Provide continuous progress updates, insights, and risk visibility to stakeholders and leadership teams.
- Monitor industry trends, regulatory updates, and competitive offerings to inform future enhancements.
- Project & Delivery Management
- Support project planning and manage timelines, deliverables, RAID logs, and sprint schedules.
- Collaborate with Developers, Data Engineers, Architects, and QA teams to ensure accurate requirement implementation.
- Participate in all Agile ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the delivery team.
- UAT, Validation & Deployment Support
- Assist in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) planning and execution—developing test scenarios, reviewing test cases, validating output, and tracking defects.
- Ensure solutions meet business expectations through proper validation, reconciliation, and sign-off.
- Maintain documentation and support production changes with readiness checks when required.
- Banking Domain Expertise
- Apply deep understanding of retail and corporate banking products such as loans, mortgages, overdrafts, credit lines, deposits, payments, and treasury operations.
- Apply knowledge of regulatory frameworks (AML/KYC, Basel III, Risk Assessment, Compliance checks).
- Understand operational workflows in transaction processing, clearing, settlement, reconciliation, and GL impacts.
- Use knowledge of capital flows, financial statements, accounts receivable/payable, and automated reconciliation to support business and finance teams.
- Data & Metadata Management Support
- Use tools like Alation, Collibra, or equivalent for data discovery, data dictionary creation, and metadata documentation.
- Support creation of data lineage, data catalogs, and metadata traceability for banking systems.
- Work with relational databases, source systems, and ETL/ELT teams to understand data movement and integration patterns.
- Perform advanced data analysis using SQL and Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Macros).
- Create insights and dashboards using Power BI or Tableau for executive reporting and product decision-making.
Skills Required
- Strong experience in Retail & Corporate Banking, with understanding of lending, payments, deposits, mortgages, and credit products.
- Solid grasp of financial regulations and risk frameworks (AML/KYC, Basel III).
- Ability to create high quality BRDs, FRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and wireframes.
- Strong analytical capabilities with hands-on skills in:
- SQL for data querying and validation
- Advanced Excel for modelling and reconciliation
- Power BI / Tableau for dashboarding and insights
- Experience with metadata & data governance tools (Alation, Collibra).
- Proficiency in JIRA, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work in Agile environments and manage cross-functional delivery.
Qualifications for the Role
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Business, Finance, or related field.
- 6+ years of Business Analysis experience, with significant exposure to the Banking/Financial Services domain.
- Experience in Agile project delivery and cross-functional coordination.
- Knowledge of data management, metadata, and integration concepts.
- Certifications such as CBAP, Agile Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Banking domain certifications (preferred but not mandatory).
