Senior Manager - Business Transformation - EY Defence
The opportunity
As our Senior Manager of Business Transformation in EY Defence you’ll lead our high-performing teams in solving the Department of Defence’s most complex challenges and driving business and performance improvement in the most challenging and critical government sector. This role is central to helping Defence implement the National Defence Strategy, requiring an experienced Senior Manager who is Defence-literate, purpose-driven, and capable of forging trust across the national security space.

This is a hybrid position based in either in Naarm – Melbourne, Ngambri - Canberra or Warrang – Sydney with regular travel to Ngambri - Canberra. Our roles can potentially be adjusted to work flexibly with reduced hours. Please speak with us about potential options.
Your key responsibilities
- Lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver strategic transformation programs that improve Defence’s ability to achieve its mission.
- Deliver complex transformation and/or capital investment programs spanning the entire lifecycle - from strategy through to transition into operations
- Contribute to business development and account management activities such as pursuits, proposals and managing key relationships.
- Mentor and uplift the skills of colleagues and contribute to EY’s commitment to strengthening the Australian Public Service.
Skills and attributes for success
- Hands-on experience in projects and programs involving business transformation and/or infrastructure and capital works development and delivery.
- Management consulting experience gained through a Big 4 or boutique consulting firm is highly desirable.
- Capabilities in Portfolio / Program / Project Management, Agile PM delivery, PM technology and digital services, PMO / PM as a service
- Demonstrated leadership in Defence or national security contexts, with the ability to navigate strategic and operational landscapes.
Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a track record of building long-lasting client relationships.
- Familiarity with Agile, Design Thinking, Lean, and technology-enabled transformation.
- Proven ability to lead proposals, shape business growth strategies, and manage complex project delivery.
- The roles require Security clearances NV1 or NV2 (if you have Baseline clearance- the ability to attain an NV1 quickly) due to the nature of the Federal client work.
