The opportunity

 

The Financial Specialist is responsible for the preparation, interpretation, reporting and analysis of financial results, cost analysis and budgets. The Financial Specialist analyses transactions to drive out issues, determine root causes and recommend corrections to management.  This position performs accounting activities, including reconciliation and analysis of financial information (including general ledger accounts), preparation of journal entries, and review of financial controls in accordance with established policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.

The Accounting Specialist will also support with automation through creating PowerBI dashboard and VBA macros. In addition, they will have the opportunity to support with project based work within the finance team.

 

Your key responsibilities

  • Generate monthly reports for review and analysis of financial results.
  • Perform general ledger account review, reconciliation, and analysis.
  • Identify any ongoing issues that affect financial reporting.
  • May assist in preparing annual financial plan and periodic forecasts for practice units.
  • Handle inter-business unit transactions as required.
  • Handle requests for ad hoc reports or financial information and interact with internal and external EY personnel to verify information.
  • Communicate with external contacts and internal personnel to resolve open issues.
  • Serve as a consultant and trainer to other members of the staff on reporting and analysis tools.
  • May supervise, provide guidance, and evaluate the work of one or more less experienced financial team members.
  • May be responsible for analysing operating results to determine overall practice profitability and comprehending how changes in the firm and/or organizational structure will impact reporting and operating results.
  • May support various Financial projects that help improve efficiencies and controls.
  • Build PowerBI dashboard and advanced Excel models to support with reporting.

To qualify for the role you must have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive accounting, finance, or related experience.
  • Experience with SAP
  • Strong Excel knowledge with experience creating macros (VBA or Python)


Ideally you will also have

  • Experience with PowerBI and a drive to learn how to develop dashboard from scratch
  • This role involves interaction with internal and external clients and professionals nationally and globally. Professional competency in the English language is therefore a requirement of this role. Bilingualism in both French and English is considered an asset.

The salary range for this job in British Columbia is $68,000 to $141,900. Individual salaries within this range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and work location city.
