At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

Join EY and help to build a better working world.

The opportunity

EY-Parthenon is an established industry-leading consulting practice that has the resources to serve any client, anywhere in the world. You will have the opportunity to develop your career in a friendly, collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment through a broad scope of engagements, mentoring and formal learning. Our team is gender and culturally diverse, and we welcome people from a range of professional backgrounds.

Our Infrastructure Advisory sub service line, within EY-Parthenon, is trusted by public sector ministries and agencies, as well as by private sector companies, for its expertise in infrastructure, including strategy and business case development, commercial and risk advisory, financing, transaction structuring, modelling and management of procurement processes. We are regularly named by our industry peers as Infrastructure Financial Advisor of the Year in Canada and the Americas. Our team is growing, and we are looking for an Analyst to join us in Alberta, either in Calgary or Edmonton, to support the commercial and financial aspects of our engagements.

You will be joining a team that advises through the full lifecycle of core and nation-building infrastructure projects across Canada and globally, from strategy, policy and business case development, transactions, ongoing asset management, renewal and disposal. Our work is across asset classes including transportation (e.g., rail, transit, highways, airports), healthcare, environment (e.g., waste), energy, mining, higher education, schools, and municipal facilities. In Alberta specifically, we are working at the forefront of some of the largest and highest profile Canadian and local projects such as the Alberta Passenger Rail Master Plan, Northern/Southern Alberta Compassionate Intervention Centres, Alberta Schools Bundles and Edmonton-based Light Rail Transit Expansion Projects.

Working with us also means you’ll have the chance to collaborate with infrastructure professionals across Canada and connect with colleagues from other practices to deliver exceptional value to our clients. Depending on project needs, you may work on engagements nationwide, gaining exposure to diverse teams and perspectives.

Your key responsibilities

As an Analyst in Infrastructure Advisory, you will be part of a collaborative team, working alongside experienced leaders who will support your development as a commercial and financial advisor. Building, operating, and maintaining an asset is all about making intelligent decisions, powered by accurate information. You’ll help make this happen by applying your analytical skills to a range of projects through the development of financial models (including cash flow and project finance models), researching and synthesizing insights, and preparing clear reports and presentations. Flexibility and adaptability are key, along with a genuine interest and intellectual curiosity in the infrastructure sector, to help address the diverse needs of our clients and deliver projects with lasting impact.

Skills and attributes for success, you are:

  • Seeking a dynamic role with a mix of strategy, policy, commercial and financial advisory
  • An analytical and creative thinker, who is self-motivated and intellectually curious
  • Enthusiastic, personable, and collaborative with a strong work ethic
  • Highly motivated to contribute to projects that shape critical national infrastructure with lasting societal impact
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and flexibility in navigating and solving new problems and addressing diverse stakeholder needs
  • Self-motivated and trusted to manage and deliver multiple assignments, with strong organizational skills
  • Able to competently undertake thoughtful quantitative and qualitative analysis, with a strong appetite to grow analytical and complex financial modelling capabilities
  • Able to research and synthesize insights from financial, commercial, public policy, academic and industry sources to inform decisions across the infrastructure lifecycle
  • Able to prepare clearly written, high quality drafts of reports and presentations tailored for audience
  • Interested in contributing to business development and supporting our “go-to-market” strategy

To qualify for the role, you must have:

  • An undergraduate degree in business, commerce, or economics
  • 1+ years of work experience in infrastructure-related fields or relevant experience in commercial and/or financial analysis
  • Strong MS Excel and analytical skills and attention to detail in producing high quality deliverables
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, adaptable to a range of audiences
  • A keen interest in supporting the development and delivery of critical infrastructure projects

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Achievement of, or progress towards CPA, CFA, CBV or another relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Understanding of key commercial and financial issues in the infrastructure sector, including commercial structuring and analysis, procurement and the ability to
  • interpret financial statements and financial models
  • Working knowledge of debt financing and capital markets and/or project financing markets
  • Working knowledge of capital project procurement models (DBB, DB, CMAR, IPD, PDB, P3, Alliance, etc.)

We still encourage you to apply even if you don’t tick all the boxes above – we’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.
