Commercial Controller - Manager 
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Controller – Manager to support high‑profile global 
engagements. In this role, you will be responsible for the commercial and financial performance of 
the engagement throughout its lifecycle. You will work closely with the Engagement Partner, EY 
Leadership, and senior stakeholders to drive commercial discipline, provide financial insights, and 
ensure contractual compliance. 

 

This role requires strong financial acumen, commercial mindset, excellent stakeholder 
management capability, and the ability to coach and mentor junior team members. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

 

1. Commercial Strategy & Financial Governance 
o Serve as the single point of contact for all commercial matters for the Client, 
Engagement Partner, Account Lead, and Leadership. 
o Demonstrate deep understanding of the engagement’s commercial business case, 
pricing model, and contractual framework. 
o Provide timely, accurate, and insight driven financial reporting to support strategic 
decision making. 
o Analyze financial variances with clear root cause insights and actionable 
recommendations to mitigate risks or unlock opportunities. 
o Ensure adherence to commercial contractual clauses, providing early visibility of 
non-compliance or risk areas. 
o Support contract renewals by developing commercial recommendations (e.g., pricing 
adjustments, fee uplift opportunities, areas of underpricing). 

 

2. Risk Management & Opportunity Identification 
o Identify early signs of financial risks, including: 
✓ Margin leakage 
✓ Misalignment with contractual commercial terms 
✓ Underpricing or non-budgeted work 
✓ Scope drift or over-delivery 
o Identify opportunities for margin improvement and improved commercial outcomes. 
o Conduct financial scenario modeling to help leadership assess options and tradeoffs. 
o Prepare pricing scenarios and lead internal fee discussions with the Engagement Partner 
and the Account Lead ahead of client conversations. 

 

3. Commercial Controls & Contract Management 
o Ensure commercial decisions are aligned with contractual terms and EY commercial 
policies. 
o Maintain robust visibility of global engagement financials and support commercial 
governance with all senior stakeholders. 
o Partner with leadership to shape new commercial solutions, strengthen financial 
controls, and optimize commercial outcomes across the engagement lifecycle. 

 

4. Stakeholder Leadership & Team Development 
o Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and influence decision making 
through insight based commercial guidance. 
o Represent the commercial perspective with confidence, supporting leadership with the 
information and tools needed for strategic client discussions. 
o Coach and mentor junior team members and support capability building across the 
commercial management team.

To qualify for the role, you must have/be: 
➢ Able to build relationships with the Leadership team and ability to influence key 
stakeholders.  
➢ Self-assured and can bring fresh insight into business problems. 
➢ Initiative-taking self-starter who demonstrates business acumen through understanding 
and prioritizing business challenges. 
➢ Able to shape innovative solutions, implement best practices and processes to optimize 
the deal’s financial performance. 
➢ Proven record of creating and maintaining robust financial and operational models, 
demonstrating your proficiency in data analysis and presentation. 
➢ Experience of managing budgeting and forecasting processes from start to finish. 
➢ Experience of managing month-end reporting with variance analysis while ensuring 
accuracy and timeliness in all financial deliverables. 
➢ Experience of ownership of cashflow reporting and management. 
➢ Proficient in managing projects with complex billing structures and interdependencies. 
➢ As a minimum, understanding of P&L concept and its different elements. 
➢ Robust understanding of financial and commercial drivers and interdependencies. 
➢ Flexible to meet changing needs. 
➢ Desire to share knowledge and enhance the skills of less experienced team members. 

 

Desired experiences:  
➢ Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Commerce, or Tax; MBA preferred. 
➢ Team management skills. Managed a team size of 2-3 people at least. 
➢ 10-15 Years of overall experience in similar job. 
➢ Strong project management and executive‑level communication skills.
