The opportunity
The German Payroll Specialist role provides subject matter expertise and support in payroll delivery to local Payroll operation teams. Opportunity to partner with the Global Payroll engagement teams to drive GDS Payroll delivery initiatives.
Your key responsibilities
- Responsible for partnering with the Global Payroll engagement teams to drive GDS Payroll delivery
- Deliver end-to-end payroll processing service for German payrolls in DATEV, ensuring the operational aspects of payroll processing and associated activities (including Build-to-Gross and Gross-to-Net, pay processing, post payroll validation, T&A management and reporting) are accurate and delivered within appropriate timeframes and comply with relevant legislation,
- Manage payroll volumes for multiple payroll clients with agreed turnaround time,
- Strong technical knowledge in German payroll regulations and be trusted advisor to country teams,
- Establish, maintain and develop strong and trusted client relationships that result in high client satisfaction and act as a primary day to day contact for assigned clients,
- Review and monitor for new code setup and monitor legislation changes are included in the processing,
- Manage payroll system set-up including data migration and transition (onboarding),
- Work with multi-disciplinary functions (process & technology),
- Actively work with GDS Payroll Leader and internal team members in identifying and implementing the process standardization, simplification and automation opportunities,
- Manage the authorized payroll applications
- Effective work planning and capacity utilization to manage efficient delivery service.
Qualifications and experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in end-to-end German payroll processing in the DATEV payroll engine and conversational German language skills
- Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, IT or a related field.
- Payroll, HR, Finance background with a strong understanding of payroll processes
- Strong German and English language skills (minimum B2 level; C1 preferred) with the ability to communicate confidently in a business environment
- Proven ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment
- Familiar with reporting monthly metrics to clients,
Additional skills and attributes for success
- Strong understanding of German payroll legislations, taxation, social security and collective agreements
- Strong project management and stakeholder management skills,
- Customer-focused mindset and commitment to service excellence
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office products
- Hands-on working knowledge of the DATEV payroll engine, with the ability to quickly adapt to related payroll tools and technologies
Ideally, you will have
- A payroll related diploma or certificate
- Prior experience in German tax accounting and finance
- Practical experience with DATEV LODAS (or DATEV Lohn und Gehalt) is strongly preferred.
