EY Parthenon – Consultant or Senior Consultant - ROAM Electricity Market Modelling

The opportunity

At EY-Parthenon, our unique combination of transformative strategy, transactions, tax and corporate finance delivers real-world value – solutions that work in practice, not just on paper. Benefiting from EY’s full spectrum of services, we’ve reimagined strategic consulting to work in a world of increasing complexity. With deep functional and sector expertise, paired with innovative AI-powered technology and an investor mindset, we partner with CEOs, boards, private equity and governments every step of the way.

Climate change is driving an unprecedented transformation in the global energy sector. The energy industry is transitioning to a low carbon, decentralised future, facing a wide range of engineering and economic challenges along the way. The scale of infrastructure development needed to transform our energy sector is immense with investments and transactions in the energy sector expected to continue to grow over the next decade. Do you want to be part of this journey in our growing team?

EY-ROAM is a leading provider of electricity market modelling services in Australia and New Zealand. Our role in the energy industry is to provide evidence-based insights, enabling our clients to make informed decisions amidst uncertainty and change, cutting through the complexity to provide actionable insights.

We simulate electricity markets and power systems to forecast how they change in different future scenarios. Our market models use a physics first approach where representation of the transmission network is key. Our clients span the energy value chain including renewable energy and storage developers, energy sector investors, transmission and distribution network service providers, retailers, regulators and governments.

This is a hybrid position based in Meanjin – Brisbane or Warrang – Sydney.

Your key responsibilities

We are looking for several Consultants and Senior Consultants in our Brisbane and Sydney teams.

  • As a member of the team, you will be involved in the execution and delivery of a broad range of exciting market modelling projects and will provide our clients evidence-based insights that enable informed decision making. Some roles will be transaction-focussed.
  • In parallel with client engagements, you will also have the opportunity to target your learning and development towards key areas of interest.
  • We are seeking candidates who are passionate about rapidly expanding their understanding of energy markets and using that knowledge in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Skills and attributes for success

Ideally, you’ll also have the skills and attributes below but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your aptitude, attitude and willingness to learn.

  • Tertiary education in a discipline such as engineering, mathematics, economics, physics, or computer science,
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently,
  • High numeracy levels and the ability, or a willingness to develop the ability, to manipulate and analyse large data sets efficiently and with the ability to deal with ambiguities within data,
  • High computer literacy. Currently, we use Excel, Python, SQL and Microsoft VBA to interface with our custom simulation software. We will provide time and training if you can demonstrate your willingness and ability to learn a new programming language,
  • The ability to employ best practice in data visualisation for both analysis and presentation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to successfully convey meaningful insights to clients and colleagues,
  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn the fundamentals of electricity markets and the challenges that need to be addressed as decarbonisation occurs, and
  • Experience in energy transactions will be highly valued, whether it be preparing, supporting or evaluation of bids.
