Executive, M&A Analytics – EY-Parthenon, Birmingham

At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence.

We’ll help you succeed in a globally connected powerhouse of diverse teams and take your career wherever you want it to go.

Join EY and help to build a better working world.

The opportunity

At EY-Parthenon, our unique combination of transformative strategy, transactions, tax and corporate finance delivers real-world value — solutions that work in practice, not just on paper. Benefiting from EY’s full spectrum of services, we’ve reimagined strategic consulting to work in a world of increasing complexity. With deep functional and sector expertise, paired with innovative AI-powered technology and an investor mindset, we partner with CEOs, boards, private equity and governments every step of the way.

EY-Parthenon’s Transaction Analytics team helps clients use data to make better decisions at critical moments in the deal lifecycle. We work with private equity investors, corporates, management teams and other advisers on buy-side, sell-side, vendor assistance and exit readiness engagements.

Our work sits at the intersection of M&A, financial due diligence, commercial insight and advanced analytics. We turn complex financial, operational and commercial datasets into clear, robust analysis that supports the equity story, helps answer bidder and investor questions, and gives clients greater confidence in transaction decisions.

This is an opportunity to join our growing Birmingham Transaction Analytics team and help build a regional platform within one of the UK’s leading deal analytics practices.

Our core work is delivered during the exciting and high-speed phases of an M&A process. We use data and analytics to assess a target company’s financial performance, business projections and key value drivers, identifying opportunities, risks, sensitivities and potential mitigations that can influence transaction outcomes.

The Transaction Analytics team works closely with Financial Due Diligence, Corporate Finance, Strategy, Tax and sector specialists to provide deeper insights, challenge value drivers and bring innovative digital capabilities to live deal situations. Our work includes building reconciled data cubes, dynamic databooks and dashboards that support vendor due diligence, commercial due diligence, information memoranda, management presentations and bidder Q&A.

Companies are collecting more data than ever before across finance, ERP, CRM, billing, operational and external sources. Our challenge is to use analytics at pace to identify and explain trends that may otherwise remain hidden — and to convert those insights into a clear transaction narrative.

Your key responsibilities

As an Executive in the Transaction Analytics team, you will support client-facing M&A engagements by analysing financial, operational and commercial data to identify trends, risks and value drivers. You will work with senior team members to extract, cleanse, transform and reconcile data from multiple sources, prepare dashboards and databooks, and develop analysis that supports due diligence, management presentations and bidder questions.

  • Extract, cleanse and transform data from client finance, ERP, CRM, billing and operational systems.
  • Build analysis in Excel, Alteryx, SQL and Power BI to support diligence questions and transaction hypotheses.
  • Prepare dashboards, dynamic databooks and visual outputs for client teams and deal workstreams.
  • Reconcile analytical outputs back to management accounts, source systems and other diligence materials.
  • Support analysis of revenue, customer, margin, pricing, cohort, retention, site or project-level performance.
  • Work closely with Financial Due Diligence, Corporate Finance, Strategy, Tax and sector teams on buy-side, sell-side, vendor assistance and exit readiness engagements.
  • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, contributing to reports, presentations and client discussions.
  • Contribute ideas to improve our tools, templates and ways of working as the Birmingham Transaction Analytics team grows.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Commercial curiosity and an ability to understand how businesses make money and create value.
  • Ability to gather, verify and assess information to formulate clear views and factual conclusions.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to work at pace in a transaction environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a logical, structured and methodical approach.
  • Ability to turn complex analysis into clear visualisations, written outputs and presentation materials.
  • Team working and communication skills, including confidence working with colleagues across different service lines.
  • Ability to communicate key messages to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Natural curiosity, willingness to ask questions and confidence to suggest improvements.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A qualification in computer science, engineering, mathematics, economics, finance, accounting, data analytics or another highly numerate discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Commercial experience and/or relevant industry, analytics, finance or transaction experience.
  • Understanding of data analytics and visualisation tools such as Excel, Alteryx, Power BI or Python.
  • A passion for providing high quality service to clients.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a high-performing team in a fast-paced environment.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Experience working in a transaction, diligence, corporate finance, consulting or professional services environment.
  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification.
  • Client-facing experience from a professional services, advisory or commercial analytics background.
  • Experience with SQL, Python, R, VBA or other analytical languages.
  • Experience building dashboards, databooks, management reporting packs or analytical outputs for senior stakeholders.

What we look for

What’s most important is that you are curious, collaborative and comfortable working with ambiguity. You will enjoy solving complex data problems, learning quickly, and turning analysis into insight that helps clients make better decisions during important transactions.
