The opportunity

We are looking for an ER Advisor to join our HR team in Birmingham. In this role, you will provide high-quality Employee Relations advice and guidance to managers on a wide range of matters, including absence, disciplinary, grievance, performance management and safeguarding. You will play an important part in ensuring cases are managed consistently, professionally and in line with employment legislation, EY policy and best practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality advice and guidance on a wide range of HR queries, including performance, absence and grievance management, conduct issues, disability adjustments and safeguarding matters.
  • Apply sound judgement when managing employee relations matters, such as poor performance and absence management, ensuring decisions are aligned with employment legislation and EY policies.
  • Actively manage and prioritise a caseload in a timely manner, in line with best practice, EY policy and agreed service level agreements.
  • Escalate complex queries to the HR Manager, agreeing an appropriate course of action while maintaining excellent standards of customer service.
  • Take ownership of your personal development and maintain continuous professional development to ensure advice reflects current employment law principles, EY policy and established practice.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection requirements at all times.
  • Record case updates in relevant HR systems accurately and promptly, tracking cases through to closure and client resolution.
  • Buid trusted relationships with the business and work closely with the wider Employee Relations team.
  • Stay up to date with process changes to ensure advice remains consistent, accurate and appropriate.
  • Contribute to wider HR projects and initiatives as required.

Skills and experience

We are seeking candidates with at least two years’ professional HR experience, ideally gained within a large corporate organisation. You will have strong knowledge of employment law and HR processes, together with essential experience in employee relations case management. You will be able to demonstrate sound business knowledge, initiative and a proactive approach to supporting managers and resolving cases effectively.

To be successful in this role, you will also bring:

  • Previous experience in a service delivery environment, including managing customer relationships in a front-line role and providing advice by video calls.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer liaison skills, with the ability to establish and maintain strong client relationships.
  • A proven track record of coaching and advising managers to ensure employee relations cases are managed consistently and risk is mitigated.
  • Experience and ability to manage a large case load whilst continuing to meeting SLAs
  • Knowledge of operational HR systems.
  • A degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • CIPD qualification, or working towards one, would be preferable.
