The opportunity

We are currently seeking qualified candidates to be considered for the position of Assistant Financial Controller to support our Bermuda operations. While this role will support the Bermuda practice, we are open to the successful candidate being placed in any of our Bahamas, Bermuda, or Cayman Islands offices.

 

The successful candidate will work directly with the Bermuda financial controller to support the region’s financial strategy and support all aspects of financial control for the Bermuda practice - this includes financial, management and regulatory reporting, financial planning and budgetary control, internal controls, and staff supervision.

 

Your key responsibilities

  • Support the preparation of financial and management reporting and analysis including the month-end P&L close
  • Preparation of recurring and ad hoc journal entries throughout the monthly cycle
  • Assisting with preparing annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Oversee the accounts receivable and accounts payable reconciliation process.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial and management reporting in Bermuda as needed.
  • Participate in the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Communicate and manage relationships with both internal and external clients and vendors
  • Assist with overseeing the Treasury Function, including reviewing wires for payment and ensuring adequate bank balances in accounts.
  • Mentor and develop other members of the finance team in Bermuda

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field
  • Five-plus years of experience in financial analysis and operational accounting preferably coming from professional services/consulting firm.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint in creating analysis reports.
  • Proficiency or ability to master complex aspects of financial software packages, including Essbase, Hyperion, Business Objects.
  • Experience developing accurate financial budgets and able to communicate reasons for variances to budget or prior year
  • Confidence in raising concerns to leaders and interacting with them on a frequent basis
  • Supervision or coaching of junior colleagues

 

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Strong understanding of the business (e.g., how professional service firms generate and recognize revenue, measure utilization and productivity of resources and accurately calculate the value of unbilled client receivables)
  • Ability to adapt to use of EY software applications (SAP a plus)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, as overtime will be required during peak busy season periods
  • Integrity within a professional environment
  • Financial modeling knowledge and experience
  • Experience working in a professional services/consulting firm.
