Job Title
Manager – Business Consulting (Operational Technology, Digital Transformation & IIoT)
Experience Required
9–12 years
The opportunity
We are looking for a Manager – Business Consulting (Operational Technology) to join the EY GDS Consulting team, with a focus on OT modernization, Digital Transformation, Industrial IoT (IIoT), Intelligent Automation, Data Engineering, and OT Cybersecurity. As part of EY Consulting, you will lead strategic transformation engagements for clients across manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, life sciences, energy, and other industrial sectors.
In this role, you will act as a bridge between plant operations, engineering, IT, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders, driving IT–OT convergence and enabling smart, secure, and resilient industrial operations. You will design and deliver end-to-end OT and digital architectures across shop-floor systems, edge platforms, data pipelines, analytics layers, and enterprise applications, ensuring availability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
You will leverage deep expertise in OT systems, IIoT platforms, real-time data engineering, analytics, AI/ML, and cybersecurity-by-design to create measurable business value, while mentoring teams, shaping client roadmaps, and contributing to EY’s thought leadership in digital and intelligent operations.
What you will do
- Lead the design and delivery of OT and IIoT-enabled digital transformation solutions across manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, life sciences, energy, and process industries.
- Own end-to-end solution architecture spanning OT systems (PLC, SCADA, DCS, MES/MOM, Historians), edge platforms, data ingestion layers, analytics engines, and enterprise IT systems.
- Drive IT–OT convergence initiatives, defining architecture standards, governance models, and operating procedures for connected industrial environments.
- Develop and present digital, data, and OT transformation roadmaps, including use-case prioritization, business case development, and phased implementation plans.
- Design and implement real-time and batch data pipelines for high-frequency industrial, asset, and energy data using modern streaming and data engineering frameworks.
- Apply advanced analytics, AI/ML, anomaly detection, and optimization techniques to enable predictive maintenance, asset health monitoring, energy optimization, quality monitoring, and operational excellence.
- Ensure OT cybersecurity-by-design, including secure device connectivity, network segmentation (zones and conduits), identity and access management, secure APIs, and protection of critical industrial assets.
- Ensure OT solutions meet high availability, reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., GxP for life sciences, where applicable).
- Engage with clients across global geographies, acting as a trusted advisor to business, engineering, IT, and security stakeholders.
- Lead, mentor, and manage multi-disciplinary delivery teams, ensuring high-quality execution, capability building, and knowledge transfer.
- Facilitate organizational change management and adoption of new OT, IIoT, analytics, and automation platforms.
- Collaborate with automation vendors, platform providers, and system integrators to ensure alignment with the overall OT and digital strategy.
- Contribute to EY’s Digital Transformation and OT practice through whitepapers, innovation initiatives, solution accelerators, and client workshops.
- Support business development and pre-sales activities, including opportunity identification, proposal shaping, solutioning, and executive presentations.
Required skills & competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics, or equivalent.
- Approximately 9+ years of overall experience, with strong hands-on and leadership exposure to Operational Technology, IIoT, digital transformation, and solution architecture.
- Strong proficiency in Python, with experience building scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with OT and IIoT platforms (e.g., ThingWorx or equivalent) and industrial protocols such as MQTT, BACnet, OPC-UA.
- Solid understanding of OT systems, including PLC, SCADA, DCS, MES/MOM, and Historian integrations.
- Strong experience in data engineering and analytics, including ETL/ELT pipelines, streaming architectures, and time-series data processing.
- Experience working with industrial and enterprise databases such as PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, InfluxDB, or similar technologies.
- Working knowledge of AI/ML and analytics use cases in industrial environments (anomaly detection, predictive analytics, optimization, document intelligence).
- Experience with containerized and cloud-native environments, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of OT cybersecurity principles, including IT–OT network segmentation, secure remote access, device identity, encryption, patch and vulnerability management, and availability-first design.
- Excellent consulting skills, including structured problem-solving, stakeholder management, and production of high-quality client deliverables and presentations.
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate in global, cross-functional client environments.
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Master’s/Bachelors degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Engineering Management, or equivalent.
- Experience delivering OT or smart factory transformation programs in manufacturing, automotive, life sciences, or process industries.
- Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity standards and frameworks such as IEC 62443, NIST, or ISO 27001, applied in OT or industrial environments.
- Exposure to energy management, production tracking, asset performance management, quality systems, or smart warehouse solutions.
- Experience working with industrial dashboards and visualization platforms (React, Angular, or similar).
- Participation in whitepapers, innovation programs, or firm-level initiatives.
- Experience in technical pre-sales or proposal development, including solution architecture and storytelling.
- Proven ability to translate technical OT capabilities into measurable business outcomes.
- Willingness to travel and work with international clients.
- Prior experience with a global consulting firm (Big 4 or equivalent).
What we offer
- Opportunity to work with leading global industrial clients, helping them modernize OT environments and build secure, intelligent, and resilient operations.
- A collaborative and learning-driven consulting environment with strong career growth across OT, digital transformation, and technology leadership tracks.
- Access to EY’s global tools, accelerators, platforms, and thought leadership in OT, IIoT, analytics, AI, and cybersecurity.
- The opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to safer, smarter, and more sustainable industrial operations, while building a strong leadership and consulting brand.
