The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and ambitious Tax Analyst to join EY’s GDS Indirect Tax Centre. The team help support and deliver Indirect Tax advice for their clients across the UK. This role will provide an opportunity to be involved in a fast growth part of the Indirect Tax team, working across the UK. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with both clients and all EY UK offices, providing a great opportunity to build and expand your corporate network. 

 

Contracted Out Services (“COS”) is a specific VAT refund mechanism that exists for UK Govenrment and public sector entities. This refund mechanism is highly complex and dynamic, which means our Government and Public Sector clients (predominantly made up of NHS clients) engage with us to routinely check that they have applied the refund mechanism correctly. Your key responsibilities 

  • Work with our UK teams to undertake Contracted out Service reviews for NHS clients. The role will  involve the candidate working through accounts payable data given by our clients to determine, based on the Contracted out Services guidance, which VAT on  invoices the client can reclaim. . Once the review is complete, it will be shared with an assistant manager within GDS for sign off.
  • Working with our in-house Qlikview technology to format the purchase ledger data
  • Building a relationship with our UK NHS compliance team by regularly communicating with them and seeking technical support where appropriate
  • Demonstrate an understating of basic VAT concepts and proactively increases VAT knowledge through client assignments and current VAT developments
  • Propose improvement possibilities to raise effectiveness and efficiency of the work processes
  • Develop and deliver quality and timely services and work products efficiently
  • Comply with EY compliance procedure, including the completion of a process “checklist” that will be shared with more senior GDS colleagues and senior managers in the UK
  • Build relationships with the UK teams
  • Manage the successful delivery of VAT projects, ensuring support in technical excellence and practical/business focused approach taken  
  • Key member of one of the client service groups providing full tax services to a client portfolio.     


Skills and attributes for success: 

  • Dynamic, innovative & problem resolution focus with good communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and a basic knowledge of other MS Office, Web-based applications
  • Ability to work independently
  • Team player - driving the team towards progression
  • Understanding of Qlikview technology
  • Ability to build strong client relationships  
  • Ability to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to refer upwards  
  • Client focused and commercially aware  
  • Relationship management skills with ability to manage client expectations

  • Project management skills, plan and prioritise work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget 


To qualify for the role you must have: 

  • Graduate/Post graduates preferably in Commerce
  • 0 – 2 years of experience, preferably in an Accounting/Tax field.
  • Basic knowledge about functioning/usage of ERP-systems
  • Fluency in written and verbal English
