Job Description: Conversion SME (Manager)

Position Title: Manager – Conversion Subject Matter Expert (Life Insurance & Annuities Policy Administration Transformation)
Function: Insurance

Location: Bangalore / Chennai / Coimbatore / Kochi / Kolkata / Noida /Hyderabad / Pune / Trivandrum

Role Summary

The Conversion SME will own the end-to-end data and policy conversion strategy for a Life & Annuities policy administration system transformation (e.g., legacy platform to FAST/Majesco/OIPA/FINEOS target). This role bridges business, actuarial, and technical teams to ensure accurate, compliant, and auditable migration of in-force policy data, values, and transaction history from source to target systems.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Conversion Strategy & Governance

  • Define the end-to-end conversion approach: crosswalk methodology, data mapping standards, tolerance thresholds, and reconciliation framework between legacy and target platforms.
  • Own the conversion playbook — cutover strategy (big-bang vs. phased/wave-based), fallback/rollback plans, and freeze-period governance.
  • Establish data lineage documentation and version-controlled mapping specs for audit and regulatory traceability.

Business & Technical Bridge

  • Translate legacy policy administration rules (billing, values, riders, beneficiaries, agent/commission structures) into target system configuration requirements.
  • Partner with actuarial, IT, and QA teams to validate converted policy values (cash value, reserves, death benefit, surrender values) against source-of-truth calculations.
  • Lead root-cause analysis on conversion breaks/exceptions and drive remediation with configuration or ETL teams.

Data Mapping & Rules Definition

  • Author functional specifications for field-level, transaction-level, and history conversion (policy, billing, claims-in-progress, agent/commission, correspondence).
  • Define exception handling rules for non-standard policies, riders, or legacy product variants that don't map cleanly to the target chart of accounts/product model.
  • Validate mapping specs with source system SMEs and target platform configuration leads.

Testing & Reconciliation

  • Design and oversee conversion test cycles (mock conversions, parallel runs, dress rehearsals) and define pass/fail acceptance criteria.
  • Own policy-level and aggregate-level reconciliation reporting (financial tie-outs, record counts, value tolerances) presented to governance/steering forums.
  • Sign off on conversion readiness gates ahead of each cutover wave.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and mentor a pod of conversion analysts/testers (onshore/offshore); manage workload, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Act as primary conversion point of contact for client business owners, actuarial, compliance, and IT conversion teams.
  • Present conversion status, risk, and exception dashboards to steering committee/PMO.

Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure conversion approach aligns with regulatory requirements (state filings, policyholder notification rules, NAIC/IFRS 17 where applicable).
  • Maintain audit trail documentation sufficient for internal audit and regulatory examination.
